Throughout the Biden presidency, there's been a constant refrain that eliminating fossil fuels will solve all our environmental problems. A big part of that narrative is the push to encourage, cajole, and force everyone into buying electric vehicles (EVs).
The disadvantages of EVs are obvious. They're more expensive than gas-powered cars and don't have a long enough range for traveling, but both facts are lost on the elite leftists who think that EVs are the answer to every question. The charging infrastructure is lacking, and it won't be sufficient to support extensive EV use for a long time.
Remember Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm's disastrous EV roadshow back in September? That debacle showed that most members of the urban-dwelling Democrat elite are blind to the impracticality of the EV push for most of the country.
But there's a huge flaw in the push for EVs that is playing out right now. It's called winter.
"All cars lose efficiency in the cold weather," explains Andrew Garberson at Recurrent. "However, drivers only really worry about it when it comes to electric cars, since the lower efficiency translates directly to lower range. For EV owners in colder climates, like northern portions of the United States and Canada, daily driving and charging behaviors must be adjusted in winter months."
It's a problem here in the South, too. I drive a plug-in electric hybrid, which means that I get some electric driving mileage before the hybrid gas engine kicks in. In the spring, summer, and most of the fall, I get about 17 miles of all-electric driving, which is perfect for making a trip to town without using a drop of gas, but when the weather gets cold, that electric mileage drops to between seven and 10 miles.

Yep, batterer technology is well understood. Extreme cold significantly, as in massively impacts efficiency. Such temperature can wipe a battery out in short order or prevent and effective operation of it outright.
This has been known for over 100 years. The first modern batteries were created as novelties around 1810, by the late 1800s (1880-90 as I recall) man was creating functional batteries and discovering new materials for batteries, by the early 1920s we had most of the advantages and disadvantages well known and in common use for many households for things like flashlights.
LOL the advantages of making power for a living, you learn a few useless facts along the way.

Meh. I’m not convinced. I think I’ll head on over to Hertz and pick up one of their 20,000 Teslas they’re trying to unload.

To use the tired cliches, leftist policy positions are not “fact based” or “science based;” they’re ideological. These problems will not deter them a whit. And if the market rejects EVS, they’ll just come up with new ways to cram down EV use on the market

That is simply untrue. A gallon of cold gasoline produces more energy than a gallon of warm gasoline.
Another missed factor is an ICE car uses very little energy to heat the cabin. An EV requires a lot making it even more inefficient in cold weather.

And the clock is ticking on the mass force feeding of electric cars.
In September 2022, Gavin Newsom and the California Air Resources Board decreed , that no new internal combustion Vehicles can be sold starting in 2035. A few other states are following California with that 2035 date. So are some European countries.
These decrees that we need to outlaw the internal combustion engine, are going to butt heads with the fact that the technology and the infrastructure needed to recharge all these electric vehicles just isn’t there yet.
You can’t store energy. Same reason you can’t run a car on a flywheel.
One winter in DC I had to keep warming up my cell phone next to my body to get enough juice to make a call. The battery would crap out being out of my pocket for a short time.

Many early “horseless carriages” had electric motors. There is are reasons why those early electric models did not succeed while gasoline powered vehicles did. So about 130 years later we are re-learning this lesson thanks to the “climate change” nonsense.

It’s been that way for close to 50 days.
We’ve had strong winds, but they’ve been sporadic.
Fortunately, it’s chilly, but not cold today.
Folly? It’s the perfect plan to cripple the US economy.

The original hybrid design by Toyota in the Prius seems to be viable. Can be fully electric, fully gas or hybrid.
We’ve been -10 actual and -50’s wind chill past few days. I would consider an EV an eminent death trap. Nature starts eliminating weak things at these temps. People, animals, buildings, tools; everything.
A few years ago I was tent camping at -7f. My phone and separate camera battery died even being in my pocket.
I think we had four cars on site with us. Only one didn’t need a jump start.
I can’t imagine ever being stupid enough to buy an EV
None of this is new information. It’s been well known all along. It did not deter the earth worshipers and the governmental fascist mandaters then and there is no reason to think it will now.
That’s the starters, not the engines. Internal combustion engines quickly replaced battery powered engines.
