Why would the Russians create a fake story that encourages their potential enemies, the Europeans, to spend more on defense instead of relying on a fickle America for everything?

Drones...from Iran, not Russian-made. Russia will have to trade ‘something’ (not oil or natural gas) to get them.If the Russians can make rockets, they can figure out how to make drones, eventually.
I don’t see the ‘next war’ chatter being worth a discussion for at least 30 years.
It depends on the West.

The 2% guideline doesn’t negate anything and if we want to leave Europe and end that relationship with those 30/31 allies we can.
