Sen. Ernst: Bothersome Trump Calls January 6 Prisoners ‘Hostages’

Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) said NBC’s “Meet the Press” that it bothered her former President Donald Trump called those convicted and jailed for their actions on January 6, 2021 “hostages.”

Anchor Kristen Welker said, “I want to stay on this topic of hostages. Donald Trump has gotten a lot of attention for labeling those who are serving time for the January 6 attack as hostages. You obviously know the difference between those convicted of crimes related to January 6 and hostages. Does it bother you that Donald Trump is using that language?”

We need our own party to make “Republicans” like her irrelevant. A new separate MAGA party will deny trash like her any leverage,

Patience. Party realignments take generations, not individual election cycles. The scalps are accumulating, especially if you count early retirements. We will always have squishes, but when it is clear that MAGA will outlast Trump, and more tan 50 % of the party are MAGA, the squishes join the realignment or join the other side. MAGA was always just the flavor of the month for RINOs like Ernst. They’ll side with Trump when he doesn’t need their help and will betray Trump and his supporters when it actually matters. Spineless and power hungry, they believe in nothing but themselves.

They’re hostages in the sense that they’re being imprisoned to achieve a political outcome that has nothing to do with what they did or didn’t do on January 6th. Like hostages, they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. And they’ll remain in prison until their persecutors get what they want (i.e. Trump and his movement permanently destroyed). Kind of like ransom if you think about it. Once Trump is out of the way these prisoners will no longer have any value to the deep state.

It’s bothersome the police officer who shot A. Babbit sent out a false police radio call that he was hearing gunshots and under fire. It’s bothersome Ernst didn’t care to investigate J6. Sat back and allowed Democrats run the show.

I have my doubts to how good Joni ever was. She was sucked into the McConnell orbit almost immediately and she has been groomed for a very visible leadership role from the get-go. The only question I have goes to the role and intent of Grassley. In the end he is a “team” player and the team doesn’t seem to be his core constituency, despite his image. Hate to say it, but if it walks, looks and sounds like a duck, it’s a duck. When it comes to the FBI Grassley talks big, but he hasn’t run anything to ground in fifty years. He’s running out of time . . . and the country is too.
