The house I grew up in was $100k in 1972
It sold for $3.5 mil two years ago. Taxes are $35 k
Per year

Down the road, in a less expensive hood a 1700 sq foot house is $950 k and $17k per year taxes

The country is $34trillion with a T in debt and it was $8 trillion after Obama got through with it 10 years ago

Congress collects lifetime retirements after 2 years of grifting

My school was $1100 per year now same school is $38,000 per year

Mothers left these kids with strangers in day care at age 6 WEEKS. and people expect them to adjust. That’s something God will inquire about at the pearly gates.

But the freepers love to rag on these kids.

It’s outrageous.

Even worse, they enrolled them in public schools over the past 40 years getting taught that climate change, abortion, and big government are to be worshipped.

Freepers are confusing Gen Z with Millennials. If the distribution of Gen Z is even; most of them are under 18. Where else are they going to live? 3/10’s of them are out of college—and even then, a lot of post grads live at home for a year or so.

And people interacting with them at work are dealing with some pretty green employees.

Let’s give them a few years and see what they can do. I guess they will be my caregivers when I am in the “home.”

Spot on.

3 kids, 2 in their 20’s and one 1/2 thru college [abroad].

I bought my first house inn 1993 at age 27 for $178k, 3-bed, 2-bath, 7,000- sqft lot, lower to middle class area in the SF Valley. Easily over $1mil today.

My job AS A LAWYER at the time paid about the same as a typical corp worker on the job 3-4 years, about $750/week.

Zero chance any of my kids could do the same.

Agree I’ve done similar calculations on myself and looking back at how much I paid in rent versus how much my job paid ,,and how much college tuition was.

I could not afford to buy the house I live in now, at today’s prices, based on the income I now earn from a job.

Young people are facing a more difficult World financially speaking than we older folks did.

I agree.

I think young people have been screwed in endless ways and I feel bad for them.

We complain about Obama’s “fundamental transformation”. We say everything was better when we were kids. We say the middle class is disappearing. And then we look at young people and expect them to suck it up, work hard, and pay $2500 a month for an apartment. There is a reason these people still live at home. It’s not like when I was young.

I’ve been doing extensive genealogy research on my family tree. One of the things that has jumped out at me in looking at census documents back in the early 1900’s (and prior) was how many young adults back then lived with the “head of household” well into their 20’s. While I’m not dismissing concerns / criticisms about a portion of the current generation entering the job market (I have been doing hiring for 30+ years and I have seen firsthand examples of entitled mindsets or unrealistic expectations definitely on the rise) but I do also think the presumption that kids should be on their own by 18-20 is a phenomenon that is somewhat unique in the past couple of generations based on my own ancestry research.

I agree with you that too many Freepers seem to rag on Gen Z kids. Is the average age of a Freeper now 80?

Maybe there are Gen Z Freepers. We’ll need them to keep this website going after all!

I’m Gen X and I love my three Gen Z children (but no they don’t live with me).

We all remember when we started out (or started over) and money was tight and we rented a room with a friend and slept on the floor or a couch or a simple mattress, etc. One advice columnist actually slept on a door when starting out.

Now, imagine these conditions going on forever with no relief in sight. I suspect that’s what these kids are actually facing today.
