Basic Income Guaranteed: Los Angeles Economic Assistance Pilot, or BIG: LEAP, disbursed $38.4 million of city funds to 3,200 residents who were pregnant or had at least one child, lived at or below the federal poverty level and experienced hardship related to COVID-19.
They received monthly cash deposits for 12 months and could use the money however they saw fit.
In a city with extreme economic inequality, what happens after a guaranteed-income pilot program ends?

Let me guess. All the extra money goes away and they squeal for more.
Notice in the article that almost all the recipients are Hispanic, are not citizens, and are most likely here illegally.

"...what happens after a guaranteed-income pilot program ends?"In a sane world, you go hungry and you either 1) starve to death or 2) get to work.
Of course, the best would be 3) the taxpayers revolt and tar and feather the government assholes who dreamed this up and drop them at the state line.

This is a prime example of just why NO ONE can stop or alter the current welfare giveaways that go out to millions of people in this country, everyday.
If the next administration tries to end or seriously curtail welfare payments, freebies, giveaway, what have you, that will be the call for peasants to go into open revolt, full on looting/burning, take over of whole cities, opening dozens of fronts against a military that won't lift a finger to stop them.

Tattoo parlors did big business with them. Oh, I believe that the money did go up people's arms, and that there was a needle involved, but I'm not convinced they were all tattoos.

You’re broke and you buy ANNUAL passes (PLURAL) to Legoland?? And a $500 juicer and probably Nike shoes for the kids??

What do the responsible hard-working women who studied in high school and showed up for work every day get? Nothing.

Welfare benefit cuts should be matched by MAGA job creation.
People should not be left desperate.
I am in favor of an Indian-style blocked currency. The block might be ‘soft’ at first, say with unblocking subject to tax going upward from 10% over time. Industrial production will gradually return to the USA.

Some used it for a hand up and others used it for a hand out. Our system is busted because it is all or nothing. It intends to provide forever rather than supplement until people get back on their feet. It never tapers off, it just ends as if magically when you make one penny more than someone has determined is necessary you are cut off and every gooberment program does the same thing.
This seems to have helped people who had a plan and got busy and helped themselves. The rest, not.
And yes, they are mostly illegals and should be run out of the country. They don't have any right to be here.

$1,000 a month? It’s like Rush Limbaugh used to say, “Democrats help you just enough to keep you miserable.”
You know your life sucks if you qualify for government assistance.

I pretty much agree, but that is scary because of what history teaches about it. A great video comparing the American and French revolutions:
