Several Democrats on Capitol Hill scolded President Biden Thursday for launching airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen without congressional approval, arguing that the action was unconstitutional.
“The President needs to come to Congress before launching a strike against the Houthis in Yemen and involving us in another middle east (sic) conflict,” Rep. Ro Khanna tweeted. “That is Article I of the Constitution. I will stand up for that regardless of whether a Democrat or Republican is in the White House.”
“Section 2C of the War Powers Act is clear: POTUS may only introduce the US into hostilities after Congressional authorization or in a national emergency when the U.S. is under imminent attack,” the California Democrat went on. “Reporting is not a substitute. This is a retaliatory, offensive strike.” Echoing Khanna, Rep. Val Hoyle (D-Ore.) tweeted, “These airstrikes have NOT been authorized by Congress. The Constitution is clear: Congress has the sole authority to authorize military involvement in overseas conflicts. Every president must first come to Congress and ask for military authorization, regardless of party.” An aircraft takes off to join the US-led coalition to conduct air strikes against military targets in Yemen, aimed at the Iran-backed Houthi militia that has been targeting international shipping in the Red Sea, on Jan. 12, 2024.

Republicans are all ok with it.
When was the last time the rats 🐀 cared about the constitution?
I’m shocked!
Not so. At least Marjorie Taylor Greene isn't OK with it.
She tweeted:
"The President must come to Congress for permission before going to war.
Biden can not solely decide to bomb Yemen...."
The Squad is angry. Especially Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, the representatives of “palestine”.
How come Congress didn’t care when Obama did the same thing?
This is not an issue. Every President from every party would have done it. The pro Muslim crowd is angry. If America doesn’t control the waters there, then China will fill the void. Nobody wants that. If America thinks they can leave the Indian Ocean, well— they can’t. Nobody else is strong enough. And like it or not, “might makes right”.
Good question.
For what it's worth, my opinion is that we absolutely do need to take military action to stop the Houthis from disrupting world trade, but that Congressional approval is required under the Constitution.
BREAKING: DONALD TRUMPS SLAMS JOE BIDEN FOR US AIRSTRIKE ON YEMEN
“Yet another war started by Biden. They said I would cause a World War 3. A complete mad man is using the War Powers Act against Yemen with F-22 Jets and Tomahawk missiles. Why? I will end all wars in just a short… pic.twitter.com/7M9zQ6K1WN— Sulaiman Ahmed (@ShaykhSulaiman) January 12, 2024
Article 1 of the Constitution says nothing about military action.
Watching some Rs fall into the ‘The-enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend’ trap. So they are backing Houthi terrorist attacks on international shipping. Fools.
I never listen to politicians regarding military operations because it’s all posturing for camera attention.
I go to the source.
What did she tweet when President Trump bombed Yemen in 2017?
I agree. The biggest problem with Biden in international affairs has been his persistent weakness, from the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan to the hobbling of the military via DEI, and most recently his bumbling acceptance of insubordination from his own Defense Secretary.
Stopping the Houthis, on the other hand, is the right move (with Congressional approval though, as required by the Constitution).
I don’t know. Maybe she’s been consistent and maybe she’s just being political. I wouldn’t be surprised either way (for her or almost any politician).
Nice catch.

Yes he can. The AUMF approved by Congress after 9/11 has never been rescinded. The geographic scope was global.
BHO ordered the strikes because he's one kind of Muslim and the Houthis are the other kind. Biden couldn't air strike his way out of a paper bag.
If I didn’t think this was a test case for starting WW3 with Russia, I might be ok with it, since THEY shot first.
