France saw its youngest-ever prime minister and first openly gay one named Tuesday as President Emmanuel Macron seeks a fresh start for the rest of his term amid growing political pressure from the far right.
Gabriel Attal, 34, rose to prominence as the government spokesperson then education minister and had polled as the most popular minister in the outgoing government.
His predecessor Elisabeth Borne resigned Monday following political turmoil over an immigration law that strengthens the government's ability to deport foreigners. Macron will work with Attal to name a new government in the coming days, though some key ministers are expected to stay on.

They can do whatever they want. I don’t care how he spends his private time. People who want to make a big deal of it are hiding or overlooking other more important things. Let’s talk about gay instead of progressive politics. You can’t call it sex because no reproduction can take place.

A Bit of history...
Attal is the son of Yves Attal, a lawyer and film producer of ‘Tunisian Jewish descent’ who died in 2015, and Marie de Couriss, who is descended from Orthodox Christians from Odesa. He grew up in Paris with his three younger sisters and uses the full name Gabriel Attal de Couriss.
He was educated at the École Alsacienne, the private school of choice for high-profile parents in politics and the arts in Paris...obtained a masters in public affairs.
He joined the ‘Socialist party’ in 2006 and supported its presidential candidate.
In 2016, he left the Socialist party to join Macron’s nascent centrist political party En Marche, which later became La République En Marche
