Washington (AFP) – Bottled water is up to a hundred times worse than previously thought when it comes to the number of tiny plastic bits it contains, a new study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences said Monday.
Using a recently invented technique, scientists counted on average 240,000 detectable fragments of plastic per liter of water in popular brands -- between 10-100 times higher than prior estimates -- raising potential health concerns that require further study.
"If people are concerned about nanoplastics in bottled water, it's reasonable to consider alternatives like tap water," Beizhan Yan, an associate research professor of geochemistry at Columbia University and a co-author of the paper told AFP.

“require further study”
The universal conclusion of every study ever conducted.
I recently watched a video where some guy argued that you should eat or drink NOTHING that has been in contact with anything made of plastic.
Soft drink bottles
Covers for prep meals
Fruit juice containers
Nut butter and cream jars
Cooking oil and sauce bottles
Etc.
All are toxic. I’m not convinced one way or the other
So plastic bits are carcinogenic?
nanoplastic. Isn’t that pieces of plastic smaller than a nano. So what are we talking about here...petroleum right? So how much petroleum can we ingest? I’ve got a feeling that it’s a lot more than is present in the environment.
That doesn’t mean there is more plastic particles. It just means we can see more of them. So what? Lets all get a shot for that.
Food manufactures (include beer, juice & soft drinks) do everything they can to keep their products from exposure to sunlight and high temperatures.
Bottled water? One often see it stored next to windows and outside and in hot environments.
Same abuse from the purchasers of where they keep and store their water.
A major point of municipal water to be safe, is that it is never exposed to sunlight and is under pressure once it has been treated until it comes out of the tap.
When I purchase bottled water, it’s always kept in a cool, dark place. It’s never exposed to light until I’m ready to use it. I learned many years back.
Women drink bottled water like it was heroin.
There have been incidents were local water supplies were bad but were few. Industry then marketed bottled water as an alternative and made billions. This is not criticism of industry but just fact. I drink tap water. On a trip I take bottled water because it is convenient and not because I fear tap water.
They can migrate into our blood stream and even get between nerve connections.
I watched a foreign investigative video re bottled water. I think the origin was Finland.
The bottle was tested (measured with portable device) for particulate matter (parts per million) and the level of unwanted particles in the water was quite low, as expected. The investigator inserted an electrical power source - it was as if he put live power line wires into a hand held device and put it in the bottled water, switched it on. The water immediately boiled in the intense electrical surge. In the water, you could see what looked like grey scales forming and falling to the bottom in the water bottle.
Testing for particulate matter (PPM), with the same device as initially tested, the number was quite high. Electrifying the water forced some of the molecular contaminates to form larger clumps of a size that could now be measured with PPM devices.
He seemed to be demonstrating that there are dissolved contaminates in water that can be solidified into small grey scales which drop to the bottom if exposed to strong electrical charge. From there, the water can be filtered because the clumps of foreign material were now larger, detectable and able to be filtered out.
I don't believe plastic water bottles are safe, nor are related plastics. At the time I saw that demonstration, I checked out municipal water supplies, and the use of permeable membranes to filter out contaminates has grown to include some of the materials suspected of being in plastic water bottles, or portable (5gallon and smaller) water jugs.
Better to buy high quality filtration devices whenever possible. No one is minding the store re plastics and contaminates nor their use in municipal water filtration. The FDA rubber stamped toxic 'vaccines' and invited pharma to police themselves. That's standard operating procedure for the FDA. Apply that to contaminates in water - the FDA likely ignores the issues or invites self monitoring. That may sound harsh but they are the ones with something to prove, not me.
The most common plastic used for water bottles is polyethylene terephthalate (PET). PET is a type of polyester that leaches xenoestrogens, synthetic chemicals that mimic the natural hormone estrogen in the body. Xenoestrogens can disrupt the normal functioning of the endocrine system and cause various health problems, such as impaired development, infertility, early puberty, weight gain, and hormonal dysfunction.

Listen to Beizhan Yan or you’re probably gonna die!
I am exposed to PLA a lot as it is what I mainly use in my 3D printers. I have often wondered if it is dangerous...
I also use some PETG when I need more robust parts...
I don’t make containers for drinking water but the PLA and PETG is heated to a high temp and has a noticeable odor so I wonder about particulates in the air.
