The U.S. acquired two complete Pantsir (Russian for carapace, or turtle shell) from Libya. The UAE purchased the systems for their faction in that civil war. Someone in charge of them wanted two million U.S. dollars deposited in a Swiss bank account more than he wanted the Pantsirs. A couple of C-5's flew in from Germany and whisked them away. They might be in White Sands. They are a total piece of crap.

Is it the same word as “panzer?”
I’m thinking no, but...

etymonline.com has:

panzer (adj.)

1940, from of German Panzerdivision “armored unit,” from Panzer “tank,” literally “armor,” from Middle High German panzier, from Old French panciere “armor for the belly,” from pance “belly, stomach,” from Latin pantex (genitive panticis) “belly” (see paunch).

The Ukraine is responsible for giving (selling) the US a copy of nearly every Russian weapons system it had.
