From what l can see Abbott is decent Governor but if we are honest he is more Pence than he is Trump or even DeSantis.

I didn’t claim that he’s stupid.

Assuming you’re referring to the AG race, it was obvious to anyone paying attention that P was a dead man walking who would be crushed in the primary. As he was.

But you’re asking the wrong question.

A better question would be why would anyone think that any Pol with ambition, which Abbott certainly is, would voluntarily diminish his political cred by endorsing an obvious loser like GPB? Only someone with zero political acumen would even think to ask.

Actually, I was thinking about the Land Commissioner race, which was the first race that George P ran and won.

Of course Abbott wasn't going to endorse the opponent of his own AG.

If that's supposed to be a swipe at me, you're wrong. Who said that GPB was a "loser" when he ran for Land Commissioner? If Abbott was such a "Bushie" then why didn't he endorse Bush when he first appeared and ran for an innocuous office?

Dude, you know better than that. GWB personally launched Abbott's career in the 90's, and Abbott's been in the Bush clan orbit, and all that implies, ever since. Same consultants, same donors, same cocktail parties at the ROCC and the Houstonian.

But why not endorse? Bunch of reasons, not the least of which is that it's not axiomatic that two candidates from the same party, running in the same election for different offices would come out and explicitly "endorse" each other: it's pretty much assumed if you're on the same ballot, and of the same party. On top of that, you generally have to ask for the endorsement, and there are plenty of reasons that campaigns seek, or don't seek specific endorsements. You have to consider, asking for an endorsement, that the other guy's response will pretty much be "Some day, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me." And since the land commissioner office is basically a legalized way to line your friend's pockets, someone running for AG might want a little distance between himself and any candidate for that office. But to suggest that implies that, as far back as 2014, Abbott was no longer on team Bush is just absurd.

That's not to say that Abbott is the worst of the bunch, he's not, but he could certainly be doing more than the purely symbolic steps he's been taking as noted in the article cited for this thread, and he could have, and should have been more supportive of Ken Paxton.

Freerepublic has very UNREALISTIC standards when judging politicians that are on our side of the aisle.

If I were going to run an opposition game on FR, I wouldn’t infest it with naysayers, I’d load it up with Karens and cheerleaders for some unobtainable conservatism.

That would be as good as burning it down.

For way too long, Republican voters have had to "hold their noses" and support a moderate because the Democrats offered a worse alternative. On the Presidential level since 1936, there have been only three exceptions: Goldwater, Reagan, and Trump. Has this strategy worked? Goldwater was smashed due to an intensive propaganda campaign unmatched between the denigrating of Joseph McCarthy and that of Trump. Reagan and Trump could not accomplish all of their agendas due to subterfuge by RINOs and intensive MSM flack. Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, and the Bushes did little to nothing to counter Democratic initiatives and legislation.

We are past the point where another moderate Republican is needed. It makes no difference if we go downhill at 30 mph with a Nikki Haley or 75 mph with Joe Biden or any of his proposed Democratic replacements.
