Going through our family tree for Grandma's 100th birthday we (my cousin and I) discovered our grandmother, the eldest, was born about five months after the marriage.

She looked at me, I looked at her. Both of us said, "I am not telling her!"

We skipped that part of the narration.

1) Kudos for glossing over that little detail.

2) She probably knew.

3) The term “shotgun wedding” exists for a reason.

4) Not every couple that got “in the family way” before marriage needed that kind of persuasion to do the right thing.

5) In most cases that I’ve heard of from “back then”, the marriage worked out just fine.
