Nixon White House attorney John Dean said Thursday he believes the Maine decision to remove former President Trump from the ballot will be difficult to overturn, calling it “very solid.”
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (D) determined late Thursday that Trump should be kept off the state’s primary ballot because his conduct surrounding the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riots violated the 14th Amendment.
Dean denounced criticism by the Trump campaign, which called the decision “election interference.”
“There was ample due process in this proceeding, and they just lost by a straight, honest reading of the 14th Amendment,” Dean said in a CNN interview. “Trump’s in trouble.”

By this act, they’re destroying democracy by ignoring due process. Couple this with the fact that they’re allowing an invasion at the border...treason. Remove all D’s from the ballot. Denounce yourself from the current administration or you’re guilty.
STFU. The only good thing you had going for you was your wife, Maureen.
The Ds will jump with joy to "be forced to replace Joe" as the nominee if Rs take his name off state ballots, thus blaming the "Torching" (and all manner of related Toricelli-esque shenanigans (e.g., rule evisceration) on R action.
The names Kameluh, Susan Rice and Moochelle would quickly be put "out there," with Mooch deemed by Barry to the most popular.
No, no D/R presidential nominees' name removals will survive SCOTUS scrutiny without there having been a conviction for insurrection. Since that's not happening before the 2024 election, it'll die on the vine.
BUT! Rs will not mount an attempt to remove Brandon's name because PDJT and the Rs need this set of efforts to be deemed election interference exclusively by the Ds. It would not be good for Rs to give the Ds the opportunity to say, "See, if there's election interference guilt here, it must be shared equally by the Rs!"
Nixon’s second worst mistake was hiring John Dean. His worst mistake was listening to him.
Great point. I have no desire to see Biden departed and replaced.
I trust John Dean as far as I can throw him. The architect of Watergate has been a hero to libs for decades now, since he has consistently sided with them in his columns.
A “sagacious” warning from a quisling that should be in prison.
Some guys had written a book about him and Maureen being involved in a prostitution ring...sounded like a hit piece...I don’t think Dean has moved on. He needs to train his guns on Dems also, otherwise he is an obsessed, vindictive dude, reminiscent of the Abbott and Costello “Niagara Falls” skit.
John Dean, snake in the grass for 50 years.
It’s like those treasure hunting shows on TV.
After 11 seasons you realize they are never going to find anything
85 yrs old
Wiki:”Dean had originally been a proponent of Goldwater conservatism, but he later became a critic of the Republican Party. Dean has been particularly critical of the party’s support of Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump, and of neoconservatism, strong executive power, mass surveillance, and the Iraq War.”
And if we so much as protest they jail us.
Welcome to the police state.
You’re a wise man.
The intent of the law as written, at the time it was instituted, was targeting insurrectionists of the civil war.
Trump did not fight on the confederate side during the civil war.
He is a convicted felon. I think you are about 45 years late on the disbarment. LOL.
That said, this crap is going to get out of hand. Let the people decide.
I agree this will be turned over, but I disagree with most of your points.
What due process is Trump “entitled” to. He was/is not deprived of his life, liberty, or property as a result of this.
Federal Authority for the Presidential election is specifically granted to the states in the Constitution. In a lot of election cases, the SCOTUS has indicated the States run the show and they tend of stay out of their decisions.
I agree with #3. (Not that you need my agreement.
#4 and #5 are civil cases. Good luck finding a court that will listen to that.
All this crap will lead to is a tit for tat cycle that will get us nowhere.
This is akin to a health inspector deciding if my kitchen is clean. It’s not a ruling or even an executive order.
I think we can look forward to him tipping over not so long from now.
Very well said
John Dean is 85 and is no smarter now than he was in the 1970s.
