BART police said they arrested a man who was armed with "a concealed pistol grip AR style rifle" on a train late Christmas eve, according to a social media post.
The Facebook post said that on Sunday night at around 11:20 p.m., a train operator notified BART police after spotting a male bothering other riders on a Richmond-bound train.
BART police officers intercepted the train at Fruitvale Station and located the man. The individual, identified as 35-year-old Oakland resident Archie Hansbury, was found to be in possession of a AR-style rifle he had concealed inside his pants.
Hansbury was arrested and transported to Santa Rita jail.
"Through the watchful eye of our frontline staff and the quick response by police officers we were able to get this gun out of our system and the suspect off our train," the post said.
BART police did not detail what charges the suspect would be facing.
Pants on the ground
Is that an AR in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?
Maybe he was just carrying for personal protection. It is the Bay Area after all.
Anyone who wants to legally carry a firearm should act responsibly and not harass people. That doesn't do those of us who do carry legally any favors.
poor choice for public transit. A small pistol would have done the same thing.
Doesn’t say if anyone even saw the gun. Do we lose our 2nd Amendment rights on special holidays?
Maybe some people on here smarter than myself can help me out. I keep hearing AR style firearms from the media. Do Gun manufacturers make anything other than AR style guns anymore? /S
Probably one of those people that always says they just want to feel “safe”. Leave ‘em alone. Next to an AR-15 is the only “safe place” in San Francisco.
Oakland resident headed to Richmond. Hmmm...
No guns in sensitive places.
That is completely irrelevant to the comment I was replying to or the statement I made about it.
Do we lose our 2nd Amendment rights on special holidays?
I don't know. If someone bothers me while I'm riding a train, or anywhere else, they're flirting with losing all of their rights, no opinions from cops or courts asked for.
You mentioned the gun
In the context of the post I replied to.
The police confiscated the gun and registered him to vote as a Democrat.
Yup. Lotsa unsavory characters on the BART. I stopped taking the BART to the airport about 4 years ago. We pay a premium using UBER.
The headline makes it sound like they thwarted a terrorist event. It was “just” some gang banger. I’ve seen videos of “teens” at their Junior High school dance and they are pulling out pistols with extended mags and short rifles out of their jogging pants and laughing and flashing gang signs.
What are the chance his name was something like Sean O’Grady or Miles Smyth ?
No?
Mustapha what?
His last name was Hansbury, but ok.
Are “AR style” weapons illegal? What does the shape of a firearm have to do with anything??
