Well, another year, another Christmas Eve. I’ll be home alone with my faithful greyhound, sipping vino and watching George Bailey learn how wonderful life is, which has been my tradition for about 15 years now. Anyone else going it solo tonight?
So nice to read Christmas messages from the FR gang.
People are now shouting Christmas greetings on the streets here—something new—but saying “Happy Holidays!” They still have a ways to go!
Merry Christmas to all the wonderful people on FR.
God is always with us-so not really alone-but speaking literally, it is just me and my 4 spoiled cats-I lost MrT5 over 10 years ago to an untimely death, but we did know for several weeks that his condition would be fatal and had some time to say goodbye-having a partner who was in the military or working on the road most of the week as a civilian, I’m used to being alone-even on holidays-and I’ve been something of a loner since I was around 4 years old, living on a ranch with my parents, with places to be alone in safety, I learned to love being alone in the natural world.
This year is sad-my old flame from college and I got back together a few years ago, but he had control issues- we were discussing boundaries when he took himself out last Spring with no warning-he left no letter, no email, no unusual text message-no one knows why he made that choice so suddenly-I believe he learned he had some fatal condition and decided to cut it all short-but I’ll never know for sure. We met over 50 years ago-he was my 1st serious love as an adult-even though we were not together much of that time we had many mutual acquaintances, so he was still a constant/vicarious presence in my life, and I really miss having him here in the same world as me right now, talking to me in that voice, putting his arms and his jacket around me outside in the cold-I miss the scent and sound of him-wish he had not done what he did...
Time and prayer will make it all okay and in perspective. My best friend and employer will be back from visiting family in Oregon in a few days, so there will be work and money to replace my expired laptop with a new one on sale at Amazon-and life will go on-hopefully a better year...
You can’t choose your in-laws?
You spent a year traveling with your dog across the country? What an experience! Years ago, maybe when I was in high school, I read Travels with Charlie by John Steinbeck. He did the same thing. I remember thinking to myself, I’m going to do that. I didn’t but I think I just might re-read the book.
Outlaws are wanted
Husband of 67 years died in June. Our last Christmas together spent with daughter and friend. All alone tonight. Going to daughter’s house tomorrow. Will be a trying time. Thanks FR for being here. Thanks FR friends for posting here.
Ha! Tell me about it. I live in New york, grew up in New York city, so you can imagine what I have to deal with.
Got there 2 pm, 2:01 pm “TRUMP IS GONNA DO 10000 YEARS IN PRISON! THEY FINALLY GOT THE BASTARD! I TOLD YOU HE WAS A CRIMINAL”
Why do leftists always yell?
They love to hear themselves talk.
I just laughed when they say that crap and remind them he was a democrat at one point so I can see where he might have got it from.
Nice!
Keep the change!
No, Skooz, not yet, but just stopped by to say Merry Christmas to all of you who are!
I am fortunate to have a streamed church service to attend. (Unfortunate that I have to listen to a woke pastor.)
For anyone who has read this deep into the thread, here is a link to a good Christmas service that comes from before the time of wokeness and Christmas schlock and the general decline of MS Churches. (Something my G Grandfather may have listened when he was growing up in England.)

Whatever you do I hope you have a good Christmas!
Thanks. Thinking of you tonight and wishing you the very best for the New Year.
Thanks. I do feel like a remnant and we here are patriots of the old America.
One summary definition:
According to I Kings 19, Elijah thought the nation of Israel had totally departed from God. But God informed Elijah at I Kings 19:18, that He had left for Himself, 7,000 people who would serve and honor Him. Those 7,000 were God’s remnant. During the days of the Prophet Isaiah, God gave Isaiah a vision of Israel.
I wish you the very best for the New Year, FRiend.
Merry Christmas
Yes.
Travels with Charlie is an excellent book! I laughed like crazy when he was forced to put Charlie in the camper during his excursion through Yellowstone, and saw a Charlie he never realized existed when the bears were near.
I’ve read it twice and loved it each time.
Alone??
What are we Freepers, chopped liver?
You have us. You will ALWAYS have US.
Merry Christmas - we love you!
Always remember (and this goes for the rest of you): At The Free Republic, we are all FAMILY!
just my $0.02
I kept reminding her of the Russia collusion hoax which was a 3 year insurrection as compared to a 4 hour capital police guided tour of the capital and she tells me BS, Russia collusion is real.
I don’t understand the logic. How did the Russians help Trump win? Did they beam brain waves from orbiting sattelites in outer space into peoples minds forcing people to vote for Trump?
How about the more logical explanation that he won because he busted his butt campaigning while Hillary sat on her ass.
This is how arguments go in my family, it’s hell. And BTW they live in AOCs district and they think she’s the savior of humanity.
I am also spending the evening with my 5th greyhound, Georgia, by my side.
