The US Supreme Court has declined, for now, to decide whether former president Donald Trump has immunity from prosecution for allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election.
Mr Trump's efforts to delay his trial appears successful, as the case must now work through the appeals process.
Special counsel Jack Smith had asked the court to take up the case in an expedited manner.

The court did not explain its decision, instead issuing an unsigned order saying that Mr Smith's petition "is denied".

Thanks in advance.
Can we read anything into this?
That there will be another ten or twelve “Breaking News!” posts about this.
Isn’t this the same case? Or was that sarcasm?
Msybe Jack Smith will now include Supreme Court justices as part of his investigation.
Hadn’t heard a thing:

Jack Smith’s legal prowess is retard-level.
Smith won the initial ruling from Chutkan holding that Trump does not have presidential immunity for the charges.
Trump immediately appealed Chutkan’s decision, sending it to the appellate court; The question on presidential immunity is dispositive to the case, which effectively stays the legal process until the presidential immunity issue is resolved.
Jack-Jack didn’t like this delay in his persecution of bad-tweet-orange-man, so what does he do? He appeals the ruling that Chutkan issued in his favor.
How do you appeal a decision you won seeking to bypass the appellate process directly to SCOTUS?
You don’t.

Read it. That’s a completely different case. That one has nothing to do with Colorado.
If a sitting president can be impeached for a crime that sort of implies a sitting president doesn’t have immunity, so he can be put on trial (unless the case is dismissed for lack or evidence or other cause).
If I were the judge, I’d toss Smith’s documents back at him and point to the door:

I can see that being a babylon bee headline:
After SCOTUS denies Jack Smith’s request, Jack Smith opens investigation into SCOTUS.

I know right. Because “search” ALWAYS works. ๐๐๐๐
“Mr Trump was indicted on election subversion charges earlier this year.”
The attorney is blatantly attempting to time his legal persecution to interfere with the 2024 presidential election to punish Trump for supposed election interference.
He’s committing the very crime he’s accusing Trump of.
Disgusting.
Jack Smith’s hope of getting SCOTUS involved early on assures there won’t be a trial until after the November elections.
Add up all the appellate filing deadlines, answers, rplys, eappealsfor rehearing at the D.C. Circuit; that will take at least three months. Then there would be a motion to reconsider. There goes another 2-4 months; at least.
Even if Trump were to lose at every step of the way in the Circuit Court, he has 90 days to file for a writ of certiorari at SCOTUS. Add in the special counsel answer and the defense reply; that’s another 3-4 months, then oral arguments have to be scheduled. Oral arguments won’t happen u til late June, or more likely next November after the election.
You can bet your ass none of the Justices want to hear this case prior to the election. When Trump wins, all these cases will be moot and just go away.
Even Jack Smith has to understand he isn’t e en going to be able to start a trial before the election.
Litigation over discovery is going to be a real bitch, and take a very long time; many months.
Bottom line is there aren’t going to be any criminal trials in D.C. or in Florids.
