I'm not convinced he can win the general (election). I can."

He’s polling third or fourth. Is Jill telling him he can win? I don’t see a path for him.

Desantis says he wishes Trump was never indicted, not because it was a grave abuse of the justice system, but because it hurt him in the primary

He's been hit by the MAGA movement because they believe he should have waited his turn and not run against Trump.p>DeSantis running isn't the issue for me. Getting in bed with the vile scum Bushes is my issue.

“Everyone has a right to be able to run.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LOL...reminds me of that Ron white joke.
“I have the right to remain silent...I just have the ability.”
Yep, fits perfectly. “I have the right to run, I just have the ability.”
Disappointed at Desantis’s inability to read a room.
"I would say if I could have one thing change, I wish Trump hadn't been indicted on any of this stuff."
If I could have one thing changed, it would be that the 2020 election hadn't been stolen from Trump, something DeSantis claims never happened. If Trump had been allowed to have the second term he won, he'd be three years into it, with only one year left to his final term. Ron DeSantis might have been Trump's anointed successor had that happened, but since things were interrupted by widespread voter fraud, we've since learned what a selfish, self-serving prig DeSantis really is, and that he should never hold the office of President of the United States.
Looks like they get two of the first 3 sentences WRONG.
“For DeSantis, policy positions have not really been an issue.”
Perhaps that’s what his wife thinks, but I SPECIFICALLY REMEMBER his support collapsing when he came out in favor of the Neocon War against Russia (just after saying it wasn’t our concern - which, of course, leads to the question of exactly who is controlling him). That was soon followed by his snipe regarding Stormy Daniels. And from there, he only went down and down.
“The big obstacle is convincing a loyal base to ditch Trump.”
Agree with this, and tough crap for it. Vivek has the same problem, but actually handles it like an ADULT, where DeSantis sound no different than Christie or Nimroda.
“He’s been hit by the MAGA movement because they believe he should have waited his turn and not run against Trump.”
No, and he’s NEVER been ‘hit by the MAGA movement’. MAGA sees the Left, with help from the RINOs and most of the other Republican candidates (with the exception of Vivek), as trying to get Trump DISQUALIFIED because they all know he can win again, and he is much less likely to stumble in office after what he’s been through (and that scares the crap out of them). MAGA also knows that, literally, NONE of this lawfare would be going on if Trump were not running...this is all to get him off of the ballot, and MAGA does not appreciate others deciding who can run and who cannot. In fact, it is PURE Third World crap.
Finally, MAGA sees Trump as the INCUMBENT who was cheated out of re-election, which is why no one can touch him, it has NOTHING to do with DeSantis, Vivek, Nimroda, or Christie. So, Trump gets another shot, as far as MAGA is concerned, and MAGA is the Republican base, and only Vivek seems to understand that - DeSantis CLEARLY considers the donor-class as his ‘base’, and, I guess, is learning the hard way that they are tiny in number.
I didn’t mind him running. He could have just laughed off Trump’s name-calling and use 2024 as a practice run for 2028. He could have run the way Vivek R. is, and he would have been papabile in 2028. Now, I don’t trust his political instincts, and have some doubts about his underlying character based on his alliances.
Books are going to written about how badly such a rising star like Desantis ruined his career. This is an epic fail.
All Desantis had to do to be President in ‘28 was do the one thing egomaniacs are incapable of: he needed to do nothing. Just for now back Trump and be guv.
Obviously, Trump could win the primary. I'm not convinced he can win the general (election). I can."
You can't win the general if you can't beat Trump in the primary, which you can't. Obviously.
This has been the fatal flaw of the DeSantis campaign from day one.
DeSantis told CBN News, "Everyone has a right to be able to run. Obviously, Trump could win the primary. I'm not convinced he can win the general (election). I can."
I don't believe you can, but more than that I do not think you can do the job as effectively as Trump can.
Descant is has every right to run. Demonizing him continues to violate Regan’s 11th commandment which applies to this day. As for soft support, there is probably a reasonable guess that some support is soft as the courts continue to intervene and it is a serious threat in the SWOT analysis. But winning the primary among republicans only gets us to the starting line. The question that must be answered is can Trump win the general? The primary is always nursing followed by Kumar-by-yah rally around our guy.
I am a Desantis supporter. However, seeing what has happened to Trump tends to make my position more soft. I am open to the possibility that I may vote for Trump in the primary because I think it is important to send the message. However, if it appears that the winds are going to eliminate Trump the first step in the crisis is not to lose everything. If Trump is not electable, I would rather have someone who can run than suooort Trump at all costs and get Biden again.
Trump has fought an asymmetrical fight. I like it. I also know Trump is fighting like a business man not a politician. Score another point in his favor. But it’s not a great idea to demonize everyone else to the point that there is no alternative should one be needed.
There is still a lot of time between now and Super Tuesday. The events of the next several weeks and what I forecast as reality will ultimately be what shapes my vote. I think others feel the same way.
What was DeSantis thinking? His ego and ambition blinded him to the big picture. It seems that DeSantis been done in by someone who wanted to weaken Trump and have DeSantis self-destruct before his time.
Not true.
Trump's loyal base see right through RINO establishment debutante DeSantis and rightfully concluded he's a douchebag.
Now Ron says this.
Now that he sees that indicting Trump won't help himself.
One other thing, DeSantis WAS supported by MAGA, not over Trump, but he was very well liked by MAGA (and here), from Day 1 of his governorship in Florida. He should have capitalized on it (as Vivek continues to do), instead of listening to his wife.
