In GOP Contest, Trump Supporters Stand Out for Dislike of Compromise
Pew Research ^ | December 14, 2023 | Pew

With less than a month until the Iowa caucuses, former President Donald Trump has a wide lead for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination. His supporters stand out for their desire for a presidential candidate who will push hard for policies that Republican voters want, even if it makes it much harder to get some things done.

Chart shows Trump supporters place less priority on seeking common ground with Democrats than GOP voters who back DeSantis or Haley

Roughly six-in-ten Trump supporters (63%) say it is more important for a Republican nominee to focus on this if elected, while 36% say it’s more important for the party’s candidate to focus on finding common ground with Democrats.

Overall, Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters are fairly evenly split on this question, as are the 14% of GOP voters who back Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

By comparison, most of the 11% of Republican voters who support former ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for the nomination say it’s more important to focus on finding common ground with Democrats.

Compromise Needs To End On A Host Of Issues.

Trump clearly speaks to those of us who are disgusted with the decades of GOP caves-compromises etc.

Now will Trump change anything like with wasteful spending and the piling up national debt?

Likely not.

But since Mitch McConnell and Mike Johnson and so on Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis etc. etc. are 100 percent not doing anything about it right now why not vote Trump to say:

Enough!

Decent, rational people realize that you cannot compromise with evil.

With DC politics, compromise always erodes truth at the expense of the people and the virtues of the US Constitution. Pondering; during the last 120 years of federal legislation, when has political compromise strengthened the US Constitution?

That’s because there is no compromise.
It’s always a handshake and then screw you no matter what , even with hard law like at the border now .

"Compromise" is a sacred word to the Republican establishment, which has betrayed conservatives repeatedly and consistently in the name of compromise for decades now, to the delight of Democrats, who never compromise.

So, is the desantis talking point now, that Trump is too hard core MAGA, and republicans need to elect someone that will ‘compromise’ with the left?

You know, like boehner, ryan, mccarthy, the romneys, mccains, etc.

team desantis must be hard up, if they are starting to push this message.

Democrats: “Let’s spend two trillion dollars we don’t have.”

“Moderate” Republicans: “Can we compromise on one trilion?”

MAGA Relublicans: “We could save money if we vote together against reckless spending.”

“Moderate” Republicans: “Extremists!”

Here it comes! Every time Republicans have a chance to seize power Democrats and their allies in the media begin the drumbeat of “compromise” and “power sharing” to bring the Nation together. Well, Obama said it most clearly, “elections have consequences” and this time Trump knows who the swamp dwellers are.

When was the last time Democrats were asked if it was important to find common ground with Republicans? That’s right, never.

For the last few decades, the democrats' idea of compromise is, "you agree with them".

They must be fought, not "compromised" with.

I remember Rush’s definition of a moderate - a moderate is just a liberal who does not know it yet.

Compromise is like a cease fire with Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran. It just provides the enemy with time to plan, arm, and kill. We prefer the cease fire that results from total, unconditional surrender. Either that, or total annihilation. Either way, peace is the result.

She: Honey, let’s go to Sams and save some money.
Me: How ‘bout we not go to Sams and save even more!

Would any civilized person with an ounce of commonsense want to “compromise” with someone who is intent on raping and killing their loved ones and burning down their house? IMHO anyone who desires to compromise with terrorists or Democrats is a blithering IDIOT!
