If there was ever a year that called for bold global action on climate change, 2023 was it.
In what will likely go down as the warmest year on record — one rife with catastrophic floods, scorching heat waves, devastating wildfires and enduring drought — leaders from nearly 200 countries gathered to chart a path forward in the fight against climate change.
After more than two weeks of tense negotiations representatives from 198 countries agreed Wednesday to “transition away” from fossil fuels.
It was a historic deal but one that once again fell short for many climate activists, who saw it as further evidence that efforts to address climate change are moving too slowly and are being compromised by fossil fuel interests.
Skepticism of what comes next is understandable. The COP agreement’s lack of a concrete plan to eliminate the use of fossil fuels adds to growing concern that the big-picture moves necessary to avoid drastic environmental consequences are coming up short.
U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said Wednesday that the era of fossil fuels “must end,” adding that science indicates it will be impossible to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) without eliminating their use.
“Whether you like it or not, fossil fuel phase out is inevitable,” he wrote on X. “Let’s hope it doesn’t come too late.”

Russia Reels From -60°C Cold Blast… And Munich Breaks December Snow Record
“Extreme cold set in across most of Russia’s 17.1 million km² territory, .....
Munich Germany sees massive snowfall
Large parts of Europe also saw extreme cold weather and heavy snowfalls earlier this month. Munich was blanketed by over 40 cm of snow and saw the mercury plummet to -18°C.
Snowstorm grounds 800 flights
On Saturday, December 2nd, 46 cm of snow fell in Munich – a record for a December that goes back to 1933 and beats the previous monthly record of 44 cm set on December 29, 1938. As a result, almost 800 flights were canceled on Saturday alone.”
‘Embrace Climate Change’
Blah blah blah.....all propaganda. There is NO climate crisis.
I’m old enough to remember when we had only 10 years left until total climate devastation 50 year’s ago.

Here in New York its freakin’ freezing. Where is this global warming? Bring it here, spew out more CO2 please.
Spare me. Most people die from cold not heat.
This is all absurd hype.
Find the text of the agreement. The oil exporters watered it down to absolutely nothing. The media decided to celebrate the portion that said what they wanted and they ignore the FACT that other things said undercut and disabled all of the things they liked.
That’s why there was such a delay in reducing the text. The oil people demanded text saying things like no global decisions will be binding and each country will make its own decisions — and fossil fuels will remain dominant for the indefinite future.
In the face of that, they chose to celebrate.
