Alarm Grows Over Weakened Militaries and Empty Arsenals in Europe
Wall Street Journal ^ | December 11, 2023 | Max Colchester, David Lunow, and Bojan Pancevski

The British military—the leading U.S. military ally and Europe’s biggest defense spender—has only around 150 deployable tanks and perhaps a dozen serviceable long-range artillery pieces. So bare was the cupboard that last year the British military considered sourcing multiple rocket launchers from museums to upgrade and donate to Ukraine, an idea that was dropped.

France, the next biggest spender, has fewer than 90 heavy artillery pieces, equivalent to what Russia loses roughly every month on the Ukraine battlefield. Denmark has no heavy artillery, submarines or air-defense systems. Germany’s army has enough ammunition for two days of battle.

“...considered sourcing multiple rocket launchers from museums to upgrade and donate to Ukraine”

I’m reminded of the cannon scenes in the movie Sahara.

Obvioulsy, the solution is moar immigration. The $$ to put migrants up in four star hotels is the best way for Western democracies to spend their money. That and transgender operations.

The defense contractors knew what they were doing buying the politicians to ship the stuff to Ukraine so the contractors could manufacture all the replacement stuff right.

I sort of hope so because another explanation would be China already runs the West and wanted us to waste our weapons on Ukraine to wear down Russia so China ends up king of the hill.

You could almost excuse those European states if they were solving other problems with the money they were saving. But it seems they have created more problems instead.

The West has hollowed itself out.

...fighting a proxy war against Russia could never be won.

And, yet, there morons here that are defending the Biden regime and still want to waste more taxpayer dollars and military assets fighting a war that has already been lost.

A weak Europe forced to choose US protection or else???

DJT wanted them to pay their own way in NATO as I recall.

There was supposed to be a ‘peace dividend’ after the Cold War ended. But it didn’t end. Russia just took some time off and now they’re back.

This is the only two scenarios that make sense.... at all.

However I’m more inclined to believe that with the end of two forever wars in Iraq and Afghanistan they are looking for revenue replacement.

This has been obvious since March 2022.

But instead we got Regime lies (rebroadcast by the Zeepers on here) that it was Russia that was running out of munitions. And Russia couldn’t produce anything because of sanctions.

America has turned into a server farm with nukes, with no industrial capacity for peer war.

After 2014, it was obvious that Russia was back as a major military threat.

But the “leadership” of the West huffed and puffed and did nothing.

All these NATO countries promised defence spending increases after 2014. None did.

The same countries promised defence spending increases in 2022. It’s not happening. In fact some are cutting (eg Canada).

People on here go on and on about Russia’s corruption and inefficiency.

Yeah, they are corrupt etc. and you are losing to these guys !

The West has hollowed itself out.

Excuse me. But the West has been hollowed out for a decade or two.

Our focus has been on words, bluff, and intimidation to us (citizens) and the rest of the world. Now that it's time actually to do something, we can see those words are just hollow words (i.e. lies). That's all. Words to drain us of our own thoughts and our money.

The chickens are comeing home to roost!

There was supposed to be a ‘peace dividend’ after the Cold War ended. But it didn’t end. Russia just took some time off and now they’re back.

When Angela Merkel admits that the Minsk agreements were only ever meant to buy Ukraine time, and that Poroshenko and Zelensky never intended to implement the terms of those agreements, it's hard to blame the loss of the "peace dividend" on solely Russia.

But then again, it's hard to blame Russia for the West's collective decision to hollow out its own ability to build things. (For human nature is still the same as it always is.)

Yeah and China is supposed to pick up the tab.

For the record Chuck Schumer did a junket a few months back with Republican Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho. Crapo is ranking GOP on the Finance Committee.

They visited Japan, South Korea and China.

Those are the countries they want to borrow money from to pay for the Military Industrial Complex largesse.

Precisely, all a part of the same obamian death to America plot. It’s just another tool to morally, physically, and financially bankrupt and destroy America and the west.

Russia also has something that money can't buy. Combat experience.

They're building a million man army full of battle-hardened veterans trained on the battlefield against NATO tactics and equipment in modern ground combat.

The last US troops that saw actual combat in Iraq and Afghanistan are now pushing retirement age, if not already retired from the military.

Every Biden foreign policy initiative he has ever launched has ended in disaster, yet many were willing to let him lead NATO into this debacle. The Hopelessly Stupid never fail to amaze me.

You forgot the fact that Russia's best troops are dead or wounded, and the various conscripts and mobilized civilians who are still alive specialize in staying alive.

They are good at things like hiding, digging effective shelters, and running before the follow up attack.

Take a look at some combat video from the Russians fighting in Ukraine.
