New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu will endorse GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley Tuesday night, three sources close to the Republican governor confirm.
The endorsement in the key early-voting state could further elevate Haley, who has risen in national and state polls in recent weeks in the race for the Republican presidential nomination.
Haley and Sununu are expected to appear together Tuesday night for a town hall, the governor's office said, offering this statement from Sununu: “I look forward to joining Nikki at her town hall this evening — it’s going to be a lot of fun!”
One of the sources said this has been the thinking by the Sununu team for some time.
"She’s been here, she’s really pounded the pavement," said one of the people close to the governor. "She’s kind of in the middle, who will bring some peace and calm to the race, at the end of the day."
The endorsement puts an end to the thinking that Sununu would get behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, as some Republicans attempt to consolidate support for a candidate besides Donald Trump in the GOP primary.
Haley has held strong in New Hampshire, consistently polling second to Trump.
The Sununu backing is a potential boost to Haley, particularly as she lays attempts to lay out a compelling argument that she has a path beyond Iowa. Sununu, who is vehemently anti-Trump and fitted with running for president himself, is popular in New Hampshire.

Exactly. The plan is to let Trump to take out DeSantis and then, when Trump flames out in court, install her at the convention.
This was actually the plan in 2016 as well, in that the Bushies leaked the “grab her by the p” video and then immediately suggested he step aside for Nikki. Trump wouldn’t play along, however.
I hope Trump rubs Sununu's nose in it after he wins the primary.
Big deal.
She won’t win the primary in South Carolina.
And here I thought bold ideas and exciting solutions would win the day. So it's calm and boring that wins?? Tell Jeb!
accurate summation
Sounds more like wishful thinking considering Trump is ahead almost 30 points in the polls in South Carolina:

You don't give Trump much of as chance despite the fact poll after poll shows Trump ahead of Biden, now in many beyond the margin of error?
The only way Trump doesn't beat Biden is if there is more rampant cheating.
You sound like another establishment plant here to attack Trump.
This is the equivalent of Romney endorsing Romney. Nikki Haley is a tool. If she’s the nominee, I’ll be looking for a third party. Even RFK, Jr. is superior to her.
In before Gomer Pyle... if it matters...
(I’d say Haley has a good chance in SC, as she was once Gov. I’m in GA and she’s my choice)
How can you say that? She had the Confederate flags, monuments, and statues of our great southern generals, heroes removed. She started a movement across the Southern states and eventually country to erase Confederate monuments of Robert E Lee from existence, and their names removed from schools and military bases. She’s a non-American traitor.
The kiss of death.
Dullards attract.
Chris Sununu - NEPO loser...
She wants to bring wanton Disney groomers into SC. Huh? Crazy.
Amen.
She must not be dismissed.......... she has a vagina
Right now aside from Trump or DeSantis I have no use for the Republicans. JEB Bush in drag-aka Nikki if she is the nominee will take a bigger beating than Dole or McInsane. I know many conservatives, some still Republicans, but many now mostly conservative independents since the GOP left them for liberal pastures, some going back to Goldwater who are just not going to vote for the turd of the election cycle the GOP country club establishment trash trots out anymore. If that means the Democrat wins then that victory is on the GOP establishment trash who nominated another liberal loser from their ranks.
I’m a GA native but I’m no fan of the Confederacy. Is there any southern state where most voters think slavery was okay? I hope not.
She would do about what Romney did in 2012, maybe worse. All these polls showing her defeating Biden are total BS. She would struggle with every midwestern state including Ohio and lose PA, WI, MN, MI and maybe even Iowa. Florida and NC would be close as would AZ. She’d lose NV. She’s unlikebale and no amount of Fox News push polls will change that. Trump is unlikeable too for many, but he’s a man of action, his lack of involving us in foreign wars is a big plus and most Americans fundamentally know he’s being persecuted by his political enemies.
