“I would say I’m your pretty average healthy 23-year-old,” she said, adding that she works out and eats well. “I’m on my feet 12, 13 hours a day at work, so I want to make sure that I’m in shape for that.”

“One checked her carotid, one her femoral (arteries), and she did not have a pulse,” instructor Lisa Davenport said, adding that the nurses began CPR and issued a dreaded “code blue” for an emergency team.

“What was really stressful about the situation was that we never had a real code blue in the center. We train for them all the time,” Davenport added.

Is checking the femoral artery for a pulse normal procedure? Never heard of that before. Just read that "the amount of muscle and fat in this area can make it difficult to find the pulse [in the groin area].

That could get a guy in trouble...

I used to be an EMT (a long time ago) - I checked radial or carotid pulses.

There is such a thing as a ‘3 point pulse check’ that is carotid & 2 femorals & maybe they were doing that - I suspect it is more of a hospital procedure.

Actually... That’s true. You don’t need to have blocked arteries to suffer from a cardiac arrest. Lots of young people die every year from it, and they have been dying from it for generations. In the old days on death certificated they called it ‘a visitation from God’.

On females it is best checked with your cheek.
