Nikki Haley wants to reform Social Security and Medicare. Donors are paying attention
CNN ^ | 12/5/23 | Fredreka Schouten

As she woos her party’s wealthy donors, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is promoting a policy that sets her apart from her closest competitors for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination: A willingness to stake out positions on the politically fraught issue of overhauling the nation’s entitlement programs.

In a recent Haley endorsement, Emily Seidel – a top official in the influential political network associated with billionaire Charles Koch – praised the former UN ambassador’s “courage” for advocating changes to “an entitlement system that makes promises it can’t keep.”

She deliberately wants to tank Republicans. It’s the Liz Cheney strategy.

All new federal employees since 1987 are required to join social security. Very few federal employees are not in social security.

You cannot dictate to the states, counties, cities with pension plans how to operate those plans. Nor, can you confiscate their funding sources.

Please explain how you fund military pensions.
Please explain how you can confiscate existing federal pensions.

Someone should ask that skank: since you think SS is an entitlement system, how are those who are not citizens and or never paid into it, ENTITLED to anything??

Meanwhile, through our taxes, we are paying for defense of the nation and border security. I am ENTITLED to that. Where is my border security money going except down some rat hole. If you have to put M60s on the border go do it and do it now...that is security. Changing diapers of those who were carried over the open border by invaders is not security.

All of her direct mail stuffing my rural route mailbox is anti-Biden.

Hasn’t she got the message that she has to run against Newsom?

They’re funded out of existing revenues, ie, your tax dollars, the same way Social Security is funded.

Perfect. An issue for the Dems to demagogue.

Remember that jingle from 1995
“If medicaid and medicare are cut,
There’ll be no place for the doctors left to train
And it’ll be too late to complain.
.....
The job you may be saving is your own.

That's why it would take 50 years to reform. No current person paying SS taxes or receiving benefits would be effected at all.

Means testing. Great.

Yea Ken Langone, you’ll be fine. But payments to billionaires are not the problem. They’ll be punishing all of us who were responsible enough to put away a little on our own to supplement our SS. The Feds will decide “how much is enough for you”.

No thanks

It seems that many politicians both Republicans and Democrats tend to look at problems in two or four year timelines.

When will shtf with Social Security? If we are not projected to reach such a moment within the term of whoever is elected president in November 2024, odds are the problem will not be dealt with at all.

Which then kicks the can down the road for whoever is elected president in 2028 to deal with in the 4 years after that.

ep, these are interesting times. Just about everyone is still pretending that Biden is going to be the Dem nominee.

The best way to fix it quickly is to REMOVE anyone who has not paid into the system. The SS System has been used to finance a host of things. It is like a pot of money they dole out for whatever purpose they feel they can get away with. Once that cull happens, then move onto actual changes. Till then, no one should utter a solution, one that continues with paying out anything to those who did not take part.

Given the media blitz launched about this vapid all-bark no-bite woman, I suspect they think a significant number of voters are impressed by “donor backing”

Or maybe someone thinks if lawfare takes out Trump, well, there’s always Nikki!

Nah.

She has all the charisma and leadership style of a bitchy aggressive School Board president. Been there, seen too many of them, failed female leaders that think tough talk makes them a tough leader. She was a total embarrassment as UN Ambassador, with her Mean Girl act vs Lavrov….what a joke.

The problem is going to go away on its own. Why do you think Trump continues to say there will be plenty of money for SS? We are going on QFS in the next year or so and there will be plenty of money for SS.

That is a losing platform to run on.

Someone paid Haley off to get her to talk about Social Security. If she's a viable candidate, she wouldn't be talking about it at all.

... They’re funded out of existing revenues, ie, your tax dollars, the same way Social Security is funded.

But there aren't enough revenues, so they are funded through debt and quantitative easing, and then we have inflation and declining purchasing power, and it snowballs...
