Superstar country music couple Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks performed an odd song to sing at former first lady Rosalynn Carter’s funeral on Tuesday with John Lennon’s anti-religious, left-wing themed song “Imagine,” even though Carter was a devout Southern Baptist Christian.
The singers, dressed all in black, performed an acoustic rendition of the vapid Lennon song which contains the lyrics “Imagine there’s no Heaven,” “No hell below us Above us, only sky,” and “Imagine… no religion, too.”
The pair delivered a nice recitation of the popular, left-wing dream tune, certainly. But to sing that there is no heaven and no religion at the funeral of a woman who has always been portrayed as a devout Christian is certainly a strange choice.

It’s someone’s funeral and while I don’t care for this song, if someone asked me to sing at a funeral I would.
How about “Highway to Hell?”
In 1991, I was a new lieutenant at Ft. Knox. At the time, Brooks seemed to have exploded onto the stage from seemingly out of nowhere. I had a roommate who opined that Brooks' overnight rise from apparent obscurity to top tier stardom could only be explained by a pact with satan.
At the time I thought he was saying that in jest, but over the years, I've never really forgot about that remark.
Hmmm. I heard they wrote that song about Lenon but did not know specifically about that song.
I was referring to the location. I can't imagine any memorial service of any kind planned without the family input. But who knows?
that would be hilarious
Well, there ya go. ;)
my wife watched the funeral last year for Queen Elizabeth II and was thunderstruck by the amount of Gospel she wanted preached as she was laid to rest.
I am convinced she was a true believer and is in heaven with our Saviour right now.
Even the Netflix series “The Crown” acknowledges her faith—one episode focuses on her meeting with evangelist Billy Graham and she is show regularly kneeling in prayer before she goes to sleep.
The United Kingdom is adrift, but for a few years she was at least led in a titular manner by a true Christian.
Stupid? You have no idea how informed the post is, and you never will. Wowie- 300 mill, and he’s soooooo talented, NOT!
Money makes the talent for jokers who really have no clue what musicianship and lyrical talent is. This is one fat a@@ okie and his toad wife who have milked the really starving musicians.
You’ll get no apology from me, FRiend. You have zero knowledge about what matters, and what features in opinions. He’s got a lot of money. Not as much as Chet had and his family still has. Real country music. Not bad rock with a fiddle.
Imagine— the Lennon/Lenin ODE to Marxism. From a couple of real scum has beens. But totally appropriate to the loser Carter Mr. Peanut Saudi loving family. Fakirs all of them, and btw Georgians hated Jimmah and Roslyn throughout his governorship and his sorry presidency of preaching.
You have issues.
FYI: I don’t like the Imagine song either and never said that I did.
Like I said, you have issues.
With hoi polloi fools— you bet.
You have no idea what you are talking about. And am under no obligation to disabuse you of ignorance about this a@@clown, whatever he sings. Highly disliked and avoided in real Nashville— and that IS saying something.
Kinda hard to plead stupidity when you’re the idiot who is singing.
Geez
