'The Falkland Islands are British. THAT is non-negotiable': Grant Shapps shoots down new Argentinian president's declaration that 'reclaiming' the territory was 'non-negotiable'
UK Daily Mail ^ | 11/21/2023 | RACHAEL BUNYAN

Defence Secretary Grant Shapps today took a swipe at the Argentina's newly elected president after the former 'tantric sex coach' vowed to 'reclaim' the Falkland Islands and said doing so was 'non-negotiable'.

Shapps hit back and said the Falkland Islands 'are British' and that is 'non-negotiable' after Argentinian president-elect Javier Milei said the territory belongs to Argentina and vowed to 'get it back'.

Milei, who uses a medium to communicate with his dead dog for advice on political matters, pulled off a massive upset by beating Argentina's Economy Minister Sergio Massa in Sunday's polarised presidential runoff.

But during his presidential campaign, Milei insisted that Britain returning the Falkland Islands was 'non-negotiable', adding that the territory, known as the Malvinas in Argentina, is Argentine.

In response, Shapps said today: 'The Falkland Islands are British. That is non-negotiable and undeniable.'

Referring to the results of the island's 2013 referendum, Shapps continued: '99.8% of islanders voted to remain British and we will always defend their right to self-determination and the UK's sovereignty.'

Milei, a right-wing economist known as 'el Loco' - or the Madman - who promised to shake-up Argentina with his win, had said he would 'make every effort' to get the Falkland Islands back - but stopped short of saying he would go to war over them.

He insisted it was 'non-negotiable' for Britain to hand the Falklands over to Argentina, comparing it to the UK returning Hong Kong to China.

The Falklands were the subject of a short but brutal war after Argentina invaded in 1982. Britain drove out the invaders after dispatching a naval armada, but the issue has never been considered settled in Buenos Aires.

“Anyway, with the Neocons in the process of getting spanked, things will at least settle down somewhat in the world.”

You are hopelessly naive. Neocons aren’t getting spanked. We all are, and you’re ok with that, so long as a neocon gets embarrassed on TV.

“Things” will not get settled down just because a neocon gets spanked. On the contrary, “things” will spin more and more out of control.

Shows you how decayed the Regime is when one of the guys making the most sense is following his dead dog’s advice.

“Tough luck UK, you blew your wad on Ukraine and now you don’t have jack to try to fight off Argentina. It’s over for you.”

“In 2021/22, the UK spent £45.9 billion on defence.”

“Armed Forces of the Argentine Republic Budget $2.9 billion (2022)”

The Argentines have more or less disarmed their air force. A year ago their socialist president Alberto Fernandez cancelled their proposed fighter acquisition budget. This leaves Argentina with exactly six 25 year old A-4 Fightinghawk fighters. Two of those are permanently grounded and are being cannibalized for parts.

The Argentine navy has likewise been gutted with only 15 of 42 ships considered seaworthy let alone fit for combat duty.

Last year they lost a submarine that had been poorly maintained. It submerged on an exercise and never surfaced again. 44 men died.

Maybe Milei will rebuild the military? That won’t square with cutting the budget.

Maybe in a few years after Milei gets Argentina’s economy up and running they can consider having a military again.

In the meantime they pose little to no threat to the UK and they know it. It’s just political posturing.

I agree, due to the STUPIDITY of the Neocons, we are now all getting spanked. But I am ok with it, because the Neocons are flirting with nuclear war, which is something I’d rather not see.

Time will tell, but as long as the Neocons aren’t around goading Russia and China into nuclear war, it won’t be as bad.

No. I didn't advocate the catastrophic proxy war in Ukraine. You did. The Neocons did.

Poor Vlad. Poor Xi. The Neocons made them do it. Now we’re in for a nuclear war.

It’s not Neocons. They’re not being “goaded”. After Afghanistan, they sensed weakness, and opportunity. They do some ICBM rattling, and the West is intimidated. They are not interested in blowing up the world, even if it would rid us of Greta Thurnberg. They are very interested in grabbing eastern Europe and Asia, respectively. And Brandon will give it to them while pretending to resist. It’s what they paid him for.

“Neocons” my a@@.

You’re claiming that the Neo-cons started the Ukraine war? Here I thought that the invasion started with Crimea, went cold for a few years, then Putin started in on Ukraine again.

Silly me, thinking that the invader is responsible for an invasion.

Your logic sounds as sane as those claiming that Israel started the Gaza war.

“You’re claiming that the Neo-cons started the Ukraine war?”

Do a bit of research on it. There’s even a move, Ukraine on Fire. It’s no secret, really, no secret, and no different from the many prior Neocon wars.

After the coup, Uke nazi militias attacked the Russian speaking east that opted out of being ruled by the new coup government. Russia assisted right away. Crimea saw what the nazis were doing in the Donbass and the mass murder of Russian speakers in Odessa so the seceded and backed it up with a vote. Russia didn’t “invade” Crimea, they were already there as they had been since 1782.

You are stoned on State Department Nuland weed cookies if you think they were going to let a coup in Kiev force them to turn over the Sevastopol Navy base they have been using since Catherine the Great to NATO.

Silliness. Try to keep up.

That was the 80s. The Brit military is ridiculously small today. A bare shadow of the 80s with no ammo. Even worse, no matter how badass a unit is/was, without combat support, a fleet, and logistics ... they are worth little.

They have carriers, but no fixed wing planes unless we deploy USMC F-35s on them. They also have no more long range bombers anymore.

They are done.

“Milei ain’t in the right here.”

Lived in Buenos Aires 3 years in the 90’s... NOTHING is more on the minds and hearts of Argentinians is more TRIGGERING than the Falklands... They would swim to the island to fight the UK... likely this is a political win ‘statement’ knowing the emotion around that issue... but we will see...
