Pro-war Russian nationalist Igor Girkin, who is in custody awaiting trial for inciting extremism, said on Sunday he wanted to run for president even though he understood the March election would be "sham" with the winner already clear.
Girkin, who is also known by the alias Igor Strelkov, has repeatedly said Russia faces revolution and even civil war unless President Vladimir Putin's military top brass fight the war in Ukraine more effectively.
A former Federal Security Service (FSB) officer who helped Russia to annex Crimea in 2014 and then to organise pro-Russian militias in eastern Ukraine, Girkin said before his arrest that he and his supporters were entering politics.
"I understand perfectly well that in the current situation in Russia, participating in the presidential campaign is like sitting down at a table to play with card sharps," Girkin said in a letter published by his account on Telegram.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview published on Friday that he hoped Putin would run in the March election for another term as president, a move that would keep Putin in power until at least 2030.

Just to show how bad things have gotten: For a moment, I honestly thought the headline was referring to the 2024 US Presidential election.
Tucker Carlson was a collaborator in The Steal. Crickets from Trust Fund Tucker in November and December 2020 while the election was being stolen from President Trump.
But by all means provide the evidence that supports your claim, because talk is cheap. At best Tucker may have celebrated the theft, or perhaps he didn't believe at that time that the election was stolen. But as I said, time has changed his opinion, because of what he sees happening in this country.
Meanwhile you still deplete our resources for a corrupt nation that is no different than Russia in many aspects. You are concerned about their borders, while our borders have been thrown wide open, and while you think that all of those coming in are people looking for economic betterment, but that is not the case, and we will all find out soon. In other words, you still are more concerned about another country while our country is being destroyed, and you are assisting in that effort by supporting the Ukraine/Russia conflict.
The more you support that effort the more justification you provide to our enemies to destroy us in whatever ways they can, and there are many ways they can.
I's almost like you see nothing of what is going on, and on top of that you are supporting the MFer who stole the 2020 election, by ignorantly supporting his criminality. Because this proxy war is exactly what this administration wanted. This administration is just as guilty for the invasion as is Putin, and if you look at it with clear vision, this administration is more guilty that Putin.
Biden gave Putin the green light to invade Ukraine in a “minor incursion” and Putin and his crappy military screwed up the deal.

Of course Biden gave Putin a green light, because they desired a proxy war. So, why are you supporting what this administration is doing?
Furthermore, you are enriching all of our enemies financially on both sides of the aisle that support the Deep State as the Uni-party faction of both political parties.
They are fleecing the America taxpayer, as are the Ukrainian criminals, you silly boy, and no one can make you see the realities here.
Ukraine is not of concern for our national security.
If we fall, or if Russia wins, both could actually happen, then Ukraine is lost anyway.
It made more sense from the get-go to stop the hostilities in eastern Ukraine. After all, that was what Zelenskyy ran on as a candidate for Ukraine's presidency.
The UK & this corrupt administration told Zelenskyy that they would have their backs, so Zelenskyy is just as responsible for this conflict as well. He not only jeopardized his nation, but his citizens as well.
Out of one side of your mouth you claim Russia is weak, while out of the other side of your mouth you say that we must fear Russia's land mass grab to reconstitute the USSR. You are also always posting about how weak their economy is becoming. Their economy is in much better shape than ours.
We are 33 trillion dollars in debt with over 200 trillion in unpaid liabilities. Yet we are paying for the retirements of all of the Ukrainian workers. We are in real danger of Americans who are paying into Social Security never receiving those benefits, while those who have retirement plans with their employers either private, Federal or State pension plans are in extreme jeopardy.
You need to wake up, and darn quickly too I might add.
Demilitarizing more than 50% of Russia’s war capacity in 20 months with 5% of our defense budget has been the bargain of a lifetime.
That's another thing you've claimed throughout this conflict that Russia has all outdated equipment. So, if that is the case he was using up old stock to make way for new better stock.
Instead of making fresh claims, why will you not provide the proof for the claims you have made during this discussion?
