I propose a market test, in order to assess in real time the thesis.
Take San Francisco, a city and also a county. Ban the sale and use of "fossil fuels" for a period of one month, in order to assess the reaction of the public. Only wind, solar and hydroelectric energy may be used, and all "fossil fuel" sources stopped.
One would be able to assess the reaction of the public in real time, daily in fact over the period on one month.
Then, I propose a similar real world experiment. Ban "fossil" politicians for a minimum of one month, pay them nothing and stop any public retirement flows of money.
I wager the public would react poorly to the first experiment, while the same public would hardly notice any effects of the second.
I have a thought on that vein that can be instantly imposed.
The various oil companies just cease sales and deliveries to San Francisco.
All they need do is just stop delivering.
