SAN FRANCISCO -- After a four-hour meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden, Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Wednesday dined with American business titans in San Francisco, regaling them with memories of his first stateside visit, calling for "friendship" between the superpowers and hinting at a renewal of panda diplomacy.
Xi attended a dinner in his honor with nearly 400 executives, government officials and academics, including Apple chief Tim Cook, Blackstone Group CEO Steve Schwarzman and other heavyweights of Silicon Valley and Wall Street.
The Chinese president started his speech by reminiscing about his first trip to the U.S. in 1985, when San Francisco was his first stop. Xi said he still has a photo of himself in front of the Golden Gate Bridge.
"This morning, Biden pulled out this photo and he showed it to me," Xi said. I don't know how he got it, but he showed it to me."
Xi spoke for more than half an hour at the event, organized by the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and the U.S.-China Business Council. He told the audience that he had reached an "important consensus" with Biden during their summit earlier in the day, where they agreed to revive dialogue between their militaries.
The two countries also pledged to roll out more measures to promote human and cultural exchanges, including increasing direct passenger flights between the U.S. and China, holding high-level talks on tourism, and streamlining visa application procedures. In addition, China plans to invite 50,000 American exchange students to the country in the next five years.
Xi also touched on a long-standing symbol of bilateral cooperation -- pandas -- in his dinner address.

(Yesterday we discovered these two criminals, Biden and Xi, were at Buck’s in Woodside (cool restaurant which some said should be fumigated after they left). I don’t know but they’re being at there won’t stop me form going back to Bucks. A fun place for brunch.)
