Absolutely correct. My input costs for diesel fuel, fertilizer, herbicide and pesticide have nearly tripled since Biden took office. These are components I must have to grow food. The price I’m paid for the commodities I produce have not increased in anywhere near a commensurate fashion. To All: please don’t blame the American farmer/rancher for your ridiculously high grocery bill. Only about 7 cents of every dollar you spend at the grocery store goes to us. In a nutshell, things aren’t real great for us out here on the farm right now. Just an observation from a Kansas farmer/rancher.

“What were they during Trump years?”

Much lower, even before we faded into recession in 2016.

We have lacked fiscal discipline for decades, and that goes back through several administrations, not just the current.

Biden, for all his ineptitude, has also suffered from accumulated deficits predating his presidency. Sometimes we’ve seen substantial lags before the dam bursts. The Guns and Butter spending in the LBJ years (massive social spending PLUS the Vietnam War) didn’t really impact inflation till the mid-70s.

“There’s a difference between inflation and the rate of inflation. All that these numbers say is that CPI change this year is projected to be “less bad” than last year. Ideally, we like to see the rate be 0, or perhaps even negative.”

Negative rates = recession or depression. If we dropped much below 2% the Fed would pump money into the system.

The bunches of beets with the green tops attached are priced by the bunch. The bunches are smalller with fewer beets bundled in the bunch and the price is higher.

CORRECTED...The recession was in 2020, not 2016.

Not to worry though. Inflation devalues the $ thus devaluing the national debt against current value. /S

Not to make you feel bad, but I paid $3.129 yesterday for premium at a Sam’s in a N ATL suburb. Real 93 octane premium too, not that 91 octane junk you get in CA.

I was in WA recently, and when I filled my rental, the price was similar to yours, if that makes you feel any better.

I live in California...I paid $5.29 yesterday for a gallon of “regular” gasoline.

I live in downstate Hellinois. I paid $4.33 for premium gas the other day. I bought the car in the summer of 2009. Factoring in inflation, $4.33 would be about $3.04 in 2009 dollars. That is probably around the cost of gas I was paying when I bought the car. I spent sometime in SCAL before Covid hit. When I saw the gas prices, I thought WTF..

RE: Also, the CPI conveniently does not include changes in fuel or food costs, which means the CPI is substantially understated.

Ok, I’m trying to understand WHY they don’t include these two most basic consumer necessities in the index. The 4 basic things in life we spend on the most are :

FUEL
FOOD
HOUSING
CLOTHES

Shouldn’t these be ALL included in the CPI? If not, why not?

They should, but the weak minded moron followers of joe and the Ho, along with all dems, are more encouraged by the false data and propaganda that leaving it out creates.

At our house: increases in electric bill, water bill, car insurance doubled, rent increased $50 per month, part D Medicare doubled, cable bill increased, and food cost unbelievable besides gas. Media and DC lie.

Silvio is an ignorant clod. The rate of inflation is down.

Did you see the phrase "rate of inflation" in the article?

Inflation has been a constant for most of history. Prices either go up slowly or quickly, but they nearly always go up. During the Depression, prices went down, making the prices of food unable to cover the past cost of producing it. So deflation is even worse, which is why farms went broke back then.

Inflation is fairly predictable.

There is a six month to one year lag between government deficits and future inflation as price increases work their way through the economy (including labor).

Since government deficits continue unabated and are actually increasing it does not take a genius to figure out what the next few years of inflation will look like....

The current happy talk is the calm before the storm.

Strange that prices soared after the Biden gang put the brakes on energy production and wasted money on the green energy scam. Trump’s “stimulus” checks added to the deficit, but I believe there really was a popular demand for them. In general, the lockdowns were the wrong idea, but few were wise enough to see that.

RE: Silvio is an ignorant clod. The rate of inflation is down.

Silvio did not talk about RATE of inflation in the article. Please re-read.

The price of a gallon of regular gas in my area was $2.50 in January 2021.

Today, it has been fluctuating between $3.40 to $3.69 the past 3 months. That’s a little better than nearly $4.00 early this year.

I’m sure the RATE of gas inflation has slowed compared to 9 months ago. But hey, that’s still over 40% higher than when Trump left office. Small comfort.

Same goes for food and rent.

Peanut butter, and jelly? Ah, what the hell...it’s Thanksgiving.

Pulling out all the stops for the Holiday!

If it wasn't for it being Thanksgiving they would be serving just the stale bread with salt and pepper.
