Indi Gregory, a critically ill eight-month-old baby girl from Britain who was taken off life support over the weekend following a legal battle, has died overnight, her family said on Monday.
Gregory's parents lost a legal fight last month to keep her on life-support machines and have her transferred to a Vatican children's hospital in Rome.
The baby died at 0145 GMT, Dean Gregory, her father, said in a statement issued by charity Christian Concern.
Gregory suffered from a rare, incurable and degenerative mitochondrial disease which meant that her cells did not produce enough energy.
Her doctors in Britain's National Health Service (NHS) said she suffered from significant pain and distress and there was no point in further treatment. English courts agreed, with a final ruling on Friday over where treatment should be removed.
The baby was moved from a hospital in Nottingham, central England, to a hospice on Saturday where she was taken off life support.
In a statement, her father said he and the baby's mother, Claire, were "angry, heartbroken and ashamed".
"The NHS and the courts not only took away her chance to live a longer life, but they also took away Indi's dignity to pass away in the family home where she belonged," he said, adding that she would always be remembered.
"I knew she was special from the day she was born."

Government “healthcare” at work.
The oxymoron government healthcare is actually “death protocol.”
When will we learn that government is good a one thing: KILLING?
The main reason the federal government was created by the Constitution was for defense against foreign invasion - valid purpose. And there’s no entity that’s better than defeating and KILLING invaders that the government.
In the U.S., the feds have NO constitutional authority to meddle in healthcare. Period. Does anyone care? They will if/when it happens to their family here.
You know that’s coming here should 2024 be stolen as well.
How very sad
The other side of the “culture of life” is also accepting and respecting God’s natural intended end to everyone’s life.
Just one more problem that the Amish never seem to have.
You raise a good point. The parable of the Good Samaritan would have been meaningless if the traveler had been in a car crash, a Hurst tool was needed to extricate him from the wreck, and his survival depended on the excellent care provided in the emergency room at the Caesar Augustus Medical Center.
Well God bless the Amish for putting their trust in the Lord and not in man or his government (Jer. 5-8).
Same George Hurst who invented the HURST 4 SPEED SHIFTER”.
I looked at the comments on the UK Daily Mail this morning. It seemed like every comment that even offered mild criticism of the NHS had more down votes than up votes. Could have been NHS trolls but makes me wonder about the mindset of the British people. How do they accept a system so determined to control the outcome of these cases that they won’t even allow parents to take their child home.
I wish the Italian hospital had been given a chance.
Gentiles [unbelievers] walk in the vanity of their mind having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart [and mind]Ephesians 4:17-18.
BTW, love your FR handle. Freedom is priceless and i wish more would acknowledge that. Seems so many are willing to let the most unconstitutional federal government which has become totlitan take way their God-given liberty without so much as a whimper.
Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17.
"Freedom is hardly won and easily lost."
God bless.
Thank you…..:)
Very sad.
Jeb’s fault
She will never be sick again, never be unhappy, never hurt, and will be there when her family arrives. Meanwhile the slugs who decided she should die now will also have a reception in heaven, or should I say at their judgement and it likely will not be a happy time.
I pray she was Baptized. Eternal rest grant unto her, Oh Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon her.
Lol. That’s hilarious. This is in England. I don’t think Jeb has that much pull. You give him a ton of credit. You must respect him a great deal.
Only because they don’t seek treatment or publicity. Amish infant mortality rates are quite similar to the surrounding non Amish population.
God rest her soul and comfort her familh.
