LOL, man was I distracted when I posted that, for some reason, I had Army Aviation on my mind when I posted it.
That was a very strange error for me, I’m even currently reading “Flyboys” the book about HW’s naval unit and their deadly attack on the island.

"We dodged one with this nut. He wanted to put Lawrence Tribe on the Supreme Court."Then Larry wanted to be Gore's first appointment and flipped out permanently when Bush won.

Correct. He went from a technician leftist to a loony tune.

a contentious election that was marked by immense distortions of Dukakis’s record, including the infamous Willie Horton ad that invoked racial stereotypes and played to the worst instincts of white voters. It was Algore who first brought it up during the Primaries.

Presidential candidates, win or lose, sure have long lifespans.

“We dodged one with this nut. He wanted to put Lawrence Tribe on the Supreme Court.”
Agree!
But given the last few Dems appointed the Court, Sotomayor, etc), Tribe almost looks like like a judicial centrist.

After the election I was in the Nashville Admirals Club, he and Kitty came in. I was tempted to go meet him, but the only thing I could think to say was “Glad you lost.”, so I left them alone.
However, that woman radiated “bitch”.

The last time that two Army vets faced each other in the presidential race.
I think some Navy boys are going to have an meeting with you.
George H.W. Bush was a navy boy.

There are 17 living former governors older then him.
Bill Clinton is 99th on that list and George Bush is 96th. They were born about 7 weeks apart.
To: Steven Scharf
I meant to note that Jimmy Carter is the oldest former governor.

4 years before that election, polls during the summer allegedly showed that Mondale would beat the pants off Reagan, but then had him slowly tanking going into the Fall. And he ended up losing 49 states to Reagan.
So in '88, when Dukakis was also up by a huge margin in the summer, followed by a long slow slide, the story going around was this:
"Hey, do you know what 'Dukakis' actually means in Greek?"
"No, what?"
"It means 'Mondale'."

First, Gov. Dukakis turned around our state's economic fortunes with the “Massachusetts Miracle” in which the high-tech and biotech industries set Massachusetts on a path to prosperity that carries through to this day. Second, he reinvigorated our state's aging inner cities, including Boston, Chelsea, Revere, Everett, and Lynn, and invested in public transportation, which Dukakis himself rode from his home in Brookline to Beacon Hill. Third, he established Massachusetts as a national leader in education, criminal justice reform, drug policy, and countless other areas. Massachusetts was in bad shape economically and fiscally when he left the governorship. Leadership in high tech went to Silicon Valley, when earlier Massachusetts had been a contender. Finance was a bigger beneficiary in the Dukakis years than high tech, and the replacement of industry with finance hasn't been as great a blessing for the country as it seemed at the time. If cities benefited during his governorship, one big reason was gentrification, the affluent moving in while the less affluent moved out of state. Dukakis was most likely less competent than Bush and would not have been a good president, but at the time he did seem more straightforward than weasely CIA guy Bush, so I'll give him that.
