Delta Air Lines is backing one of its flight attendants, who is accused of discrimination for failing to make allergy accommodations for a traveler on a flight from New York City to San Diego.
When a California family asked that no almonds be served on the Oct. 2022 flight due to a teenager’s allergy, the flight attendant denied the request, according to a complaint filed to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
Deborah Gianulis and her mother, Deena Gianulis, filed the complaint in Oct. 2023 on behalf of Deborah Gianulis’ teenage son, identified only as K.C.
As the complaint states, the family requested they have the opportunity to wipe down K.C.’s seating, that Delta make an announcement alerting passengers that someone with a nut allergy was on board, and that Delta refrain from serving almonds during the flight.

As I said, it started right around the time parents started getting obsessive with keeping their kids in a ‘germ-free’ environment.
My wife has a severe allergy to fish and shellfish. She has ended up in the hospital unable to breath along with other bad but less deadly problems. Unfortunately, products that cause her problems are ingredients in many dishes that most people have no idea contain seafood. Things like Worcestershire sauce, certain barbecue sauces, Ceasar salad dressing, many soy sauces and of course anything that has been deep fried with fish or shellfish or grilled next to fish can cause her severe problems.
We would not think of making impositions on others because of her problem. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to useful information from people who work at restaurants about how their food has been prepared. And it has gotten much worse in our area because of the huge influx of people who do not speak English. The last time she had a severe reaction we had a dish that was served with green vegetables. I noticed that they tasted fishy and immediately cautioned her but it was too late. We had eaten at the same restaurant for years before without having a problem. This time, the employees had reused water that they had been boiling fish in to boil the vegetables.
This was not an accident; we were told that reusing the fishy water made the vegetables taste better, was healthier for people and was helping the environment. Personally, I thought that flavoring the vegetables with fishy water made them taste disgusting. We received no apology and were told that this was how their vegetables were going to be prepared from now on. We of course have not been back and would never consider suing the restaurant.
Most people with peanut allergies are NOT allergic to almonds. Peanuts are legumes. Almonds are tree nuts.
Is she allergic to peanuts too? My SiL is severely allergic to peanuts but not to tree nuts. Peanuts are not actually nuts, they are legumes.
That Karen needs to be slapped.
forward of row 15 are non-smoking seats
row 15 and all the way back is smoking.
THE FAMILY CAN TAKE THE TRAIN.
He has never flown anywhere. Air exposure has never been a problem. Ingesting nuts is the problem for him.
I have a severe allergy to democrats, can I get a flight without these idiots?
4 kids in our family:
A whole loaf of Wonder bread for school lunches we took every day.
PB & J nothing else. NO CAFETERIA
For years I have advocated making air travel less miserable by requiring all children to wear clear bubble space helmets, a la 1950s sci-fi films.
Rather than make everyone conform to her kid’s special needs, the mama should deploy protective gear.
I didn't say they weren't real. I'm saying that 90% of the people who make an issue about it are made up for attention.
I ate at the cafeteria if I wanted to. I usually didn’t. I remember no fatalities from peanut allergies or any allergies due to the cafeteria. PB&J sandwich from the cafeteria I usually didn’t primarily because I wanted PB, honey & mayo on my PB sandwich.
Ok so what changed?
” I’m saying that 90% of the people who make an issue about it are made up for attention.”
On what basis do you make that claim?
“I’m guessing that 90% of these nut allergies in children are because of a mom who is nuts to begin with. Made up for attention. Like tranny moms.”
And I guess that 82% of all statistics are made up on the spot!
Lol!
Aside from the possible allergen issues ... that's just gross.
My allergist is a peanut allergy authority. He’s written many books on the topic. He said that most kids will outgrow their allergy but won’t know it because their mothers won’t let them within hundred yards of a peanut.
True enough. But if these allergies were as prevalent as they're made out to be and so deadly there would be kids dropping dead every day. Peanuts and nuts would have be banned in the United States...unless of course they started claiming they were vaccines.
