WASHINGTON — An Israeli government request for 24,000 assault rifles from the United States is drawing scrutiny from American lawmakers and some State Department officials who fear the weapons might end up in the hands of settlers and civilian militias trying to force Palestinians from land in the West Bank, where violence has been surging, U.S. officials say.
The three proposed tranches of semi-automatic and automatic rifles are valued at $34 million and are being ordered directly from U.S. gunmakers, but they require State Department approval and congressional notification. Israel says the rifles would be used by the national police force, but has also indicated that they could be given to civilians, people familiar with the weapons orders told The New York Times.
The State Department gave informal notification of the sale last week to congressional committees, which ignited concerns and prompted requests for the department to ask Israel tougher questions about how it intends to use the arms. Within the department, officials working on human rights issues have expressed reservations, while those overseeing weapons sales intend to approve the orders and announce them in the coming days, U.S. officials say.

Big Big mistake on America's part that the status quo is what it is. The duplicity will be in full bloom... in due time. Unfortunately.
I’m reminded of how the press gets hysterical when a policeman’s gun is stolen. The fact that it’s just a gun and nothing special in relation to its peers means nothing. I think the actual problem is the symbolic loss of power over the masses represented by a police gun getting into a civilian’s hands. It’s something to focus on and obsess about that virtue signals but has no other meaning. This is a virtue signal meaning all guns are bad. Armed civilians are bad. The other, unspoken side of the equation must be that rapping and killing civilians is better than civilians defending themselves from death or rape. Since that thought can’t be spoken aloud the other thing that can be done is condemning the sale of guns that might be used by civilians.
Watch, the next thing will be an embargo on steel and other materials to Israel that are used in firearms production. (And ammunition too, of course. Wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.)

Israel Weapons Industry manufacture several suitable battle rifles and exports them in large numbers. Tavor X95s and Arads can do the job.
Not surprisingly, no fears expressed over the American weapons left to the Taliban after the hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan that have been purchased by Iran and given to their terrorist proxies Hamas and Hezbollah.
No mention of the California Democrats who were involved in arms smuggling of Chinese weapons to gangs, either...
Exactly...if the “settlers” had been armed none of this would have happened, or would have ended very differently.
Israel and the Jewish people don’t need to protect themselves. They have the Democrat Party to protect them. Especially from the evil Conservative Christians.
Democrats did this to black folks in the US with the gun laws of the late 1800s, early 1900s. Jews are just their latest target. Would they pass laws against Jews owning firearms in the US? Do bears use the woods for a portapotty?

I’m sure some other Country would sell Israel their AK’s if we don’t sell them our rifles.
They are not AR -15s. They are M4s, carbine version of select fire M-16s, actual assault rifles.
