Many viewers of the footage have reacted with fury at the male player's presence on the field, due to the unfair physical advantage he holds after going through puberty.
In the footage, a female player from Dighton-Rehoboth passed the ball to their male teammate, who controlled it before releasing a vicious shot.
The ball immediately struck an opponent across the face, leaving her with grisly facial injuries, including losing two teeth, that sent her to the hospital. Her condition is unclear.
Shocked teammates could be seen leaning their hands on their knees and comforting each other after witnessing the grisly injury.
Despite the harrowing scenes, the male player's place on the team was defended by Swampscott Public Schools Athletic Director Kelly Wolff, who said he has 'the exact same right to participate as any player on the team.'
Wolff identified the player, who is not believed to be transgender, as a 4-year varsity player and a co-captain of the team, according to WCVB.
A female hockey player screamed in agony after suffering facial injuries The player was injured by a full-force shot from a male opponent
A female student hockey player has suffered horrific facial injuries after being struck by a shot from a male opponent.
Footage of the horror accident saw the woman collapse and scream in agony after the ball hit her face, with the male player's participation sparking backlash despite being allowed under Massachusetts law.
The incident occurred Thursday between two varsity teams at Swampscott High School and Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School, with the former coming out on top thanks to two goals scored by the male player.
In an email after the incident, Dighton-Rehoboth Superintendent Bill Runey told alarmed parents that the injury to their student 'dramatically magnifies the concerns of many about player safety.'

Y'all fought for, voted for and now have equality and yer still bitch'n...
Wait until this equality finally moves to the divorce courts!
The reason I thought it was a trans was I watched the video on my phone. I thought that player they closed in on afterword ( the heavy one wearing the skirt ) was the one that hit the ball :-)
It will be up to the students to put an end to this. It seems the adults haven’t the nerve. What absolute cowards they are to refuse to stand up to such nonsense.
The swing is “traditionally” not supposed to be more than horizontal. The rule has to do with “dangerous” play. You can swing like a banshee if you are not near anyone.
I haven’t watched the video, but I’ve got years of experience around field hockey. My guess is that the shot was either above the knees (an illegal and “dangerous” play) or it hit a stick and glanced upward into the mouth.
I think a lot of folks still think that field hockey is played by “slow fat girls” on grass. That image is very outdated. Even low level college play is fast and pretty “exciting.” It is neither slow nor played by fat girls. If you play it on artificial turf…its crazy fast.
He’s a queer for playing on the woman’s team.
He could just be playing the system. If women invade men’s spaces, why not turn the tables?
I had Co-ed PE as a Jr. & Sr. in HS. The most aggressive sport we did was dodge ball.
OOOOOO! You sound like such a heavy duty type
Wussy male can’t compete with men so beats up in women
How inspiring
The athletic director’s stance that he is allowed to compete is correct under Massachusetts law, which has zero restrictions to preventing a male athlete from competing in female sports.
~~~~~
Massachusetts law is an ass.
In junior high we played field hockey during phys ed class. One of my friends could raise the ball with ease, and had a wicked shot. I stupidly got in the way of one of his wicked shots and the ball ricocheted off my leg and hit the side of my head. I’m not sure which hurt more, the hit to the leg or the head.
It was a freak accident that the ball hit my head also, but it happened.
That’s just it, stuff happens.
“… but just a good player who could help the girls win…” That’s where the problem is: obsession with winning in sport, to a degree where you would allow biological males participate in a strenuous physical activity agains females.
Apparently it’s being done to teach children to become more resilient to life challenges. Nothing can be further from the truth: given the fact that the vast majority of the young people never participate in any strenuous physical activities, it only leads to increased level of “adult” injuries in children (best example being maddening rate of ACL injuries among young girls and women), as well as broken bones and face injuries like it described in the article.
My granddaughter is in her first year playing volleyball. I’ve been to two games where the other team had a boy on the team. I was unaware that if the school doesn’t have a team for the boys that they can play with the girls. I can’t imagine why any high school boy would even want to be a part of the the girls team.
What was interesting was that the boys on each of these teams were terrible players and got very little time on the floor.
I believe anyone can sue anyone or thing. If there is a possibility ,even remote, of relief the case can be accepted.
In this case,I would guess, that the law allowing a man to play on women’s teams was not followed explicitly. There could be culpability.
Oh.....my bad. Apologies....
I made a mistake also. Thought it was a trans because I thought the one they closed in on after ( a hefty woman in a skirt) was the one that took the shot. Turns out it wasn’t. It was an actual male playing on the team
In our area boy’s volleyball is a big deal. For some reason it attracts a lot of the Puerto Rican kids. They are fun to watch. They would annihilate any girls team.
Believe it or not…there are college Men’s VB teams that give out scholarships. Maybe thats why they want to play on a girls team. Not sure that would get you much attention at any of the colleges I worked with.
Arrest the dude for assault & battery in a criminal court, and sue him in civil court for damages.
—”Can you even do dental implants on such youngsters? Their jaw bones are still growing.”
On a hopeful positive note...
My sister, her kids, and some cousins were playing on monkey bars one Sunday, when something happened and one girl had two teeth knocked out, she called her friend the dentist.
He told her to put the teeth in MILK and meet him at the office.
That was years ago and she still has the teeth but the color does not match.
38. Try a “reckless endangerment” approach, I.e. “they should have known” that a male player is stronger than the usual female player. Therefore the school system “should have known and or anticipated enhanced risks to a girl player’s safety”.
