Sen. Angus King (I-ME) is working on “assault rifle” gun control this week after a suspect with a sniper rifle shot and killed 18 people in Lewiston, Maine.
The Portland Press Herald noted that King is not ready to reveal details about his gun control bill,
The Herald indicated King’s intention is to “ban the most dangerous and lethal aspects of military-style assault rifles.” King provided a clue into what these “aspects” of certain firearms might be when he spoke to KTLA and said, “I want to do what’ll work and to me, the most clear danger are these high capacity magazines.”

Senator King should include in his proposed legislation provisions to preclude movies, TV, the internet and books from publishing materials which glorify guns and killing.
its not "Priggery". You cannot let the enemy define the terms. Illustrating that they are LYING is key. It plants the seed of doubt in people's minds about what their real motives are.

It does work like that. They are not the same thing at all. An AR-15 has never been a military weapon. What a weapon looks like and what it can actually do are two totally different things. They are not equally capable. If semi automatic rifles were more effective and to be more feared, armies would issue them to their soldiers instead of select fire weapons. Not one army does. They are not as capable.
Nobody except hobbiests, knows or cares the difference between an official definition assault rifle, and a functionally identical AR-15. For them the difference is it best, academic. They want to take away the rifle somebody walks in with and does a mass murder in the night club. You won’t win a thing by convincing the public that it wasn’t a full auto, and therefore, not an assault rifle, and therefore, completely outside the balance of the discussion the politician is pushing. You win nothing.
The discussion does not end with pointing out that they are lying about what is an "assault rifle", what is a "weapon of war" or any of the other scare terms they've invented. First, point out that they are lying and the rifle they are talking about is not what they claim it is....and they know that. Point out that standard capacity magazines have never been found to be a factor in either mass shootings or indeed gun crime. You can reload in literally a second. This isn't new technology either. Its been around a long time. All of this sets up....
Its not the gun that is the problem. The problem is societal. The vast majority of all murders with guns....about 96% are with handguns. There are about 25 million AR-15s in circulation and yet they are very very rarely used to commit crime. So why are they so hot and bothered by the AR-15 or other modern sporting rifles? That's not what is being used. Clearly their motive is not to prevent crime - which as they full know, none of their various bans and restrictions would do anyway. They want to take away your ability to defend yourself. They want to make you LESS SAFE, not more. The gun ban lobby has sinister ulterior motives. You should not surrender any of your rights.

Precedent. Following Brady, the left made no bones about it that they considered 10 a first step towards 5, 3, 1 or whatever it took to get down to none.
If “all of human history” is not a convincing argument for self-defense, and “200 million+ civilians murdered by their ‘own’ governments in the 20th century” seems like distant history, the immediate lurch past ‘please’ into ‘no job, no food, we’re building concentration camps’ in 2020-2021 should be the end of all arguments for anything other than disarming governments.

The vast majority of all murders are by uniformed officers operating as police or para- or regular military against citizens who allowed themselves to be disarmed.

Modest Proposal: Simply put the word “assault” before “criminals” and “lunatics”. They will then be scary. New laws can be passed that require keeping “assault criminals” and “assault lunatics” in custody.
Had dinner with (then governor) King and wife at Sugarloaf Ski Resort. Smart business man. Great dinner companion, but far left politically. Interesting table talk, but avoided politics for the most part.
Maybe Anus should come out and tell us what an Assault Rifle is first
