A young mother from Oklahoma was found dead on a barge in the Mississippi River after being arrested a few days earlier for making multiple 911 calls pleading for help. Hailey Silas' body was found around 7 a.m. on a Saturday as the crew of the barge was performing an inspection while navigating the Mississippi River near Shelby Forest in Tennessee, WREG reported.
A week earlier, Silas was arrested for making multiple 911 calls from a gas station, requesting cops to provide her with a ride out of the city due to her fear of something. When the police arrived, she told them that she was having a panic attack.
Following her arrest, Silas was transported to a police station in handcuffs. At the station, she requested to speak with her parents, explaining that she was feeling scared and disoriented, the outlet reported.
The exact cause of her fear was not immediately clear, but in addition to her request to speak with her parents, the young mom also asked to be transported to a "psych ward," as mentioned in the report.
Silas entered a guilty plea last Wednesday to a misdemeanor charge related to communicating a false alarm.
According to records cited by the outlet, she received a suspended sentence for the time already served. Additionally, a psychological evaluation report was submitted, although its contents were not made public.
Three days after Silas entered her guilty plea, her body was found.
It remains unclear what led the Oklahoma resident from Luther to the border area between Arkansas and Tennessee. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office reported that they do not suspect foul play was involved, as per WREG.
Authorities stated that they did not find any identification on Silas. However, her mother, LaRena Darrow, alleged that someone had her daughter's phone.

awful
Sounds like a possible schizophrenic to me.
A very sad situation. Her family wanted to help, but she would not accept their help, perhaps as a way to remain an independent adult. Sounds like she was associating with the wrong kind of men. The photos show a pleasant looking young lady who seemed to love being a Mom to her toddler son.
*As a side note, much of the Sponsored Content on that web page is revolting.
Running from drug induced schizophrenia.
Or running from her dealer.
Wonder if she jumped off the I-40 or I-55 bridge onto the barge? You can’t swim up to a barge and climb on.
I wonder if she knew Hunter Biden, and he, her.
Looks like a nice happy girl.
Sad ...
My guess is that this unfortunate young lady, cute as she was, ended up being grabbed by some psycho male who did what guys do and then he killed her and took her phone.
She might have been conned into going to the barge.
Hope they find the sob that killed her.........IF that’s what happened.
The pendulum has swung too far away from mandatory mental health care treatment and committment.
It is a 180 degree turn from when committment was maybe too easy to obtain and too many mental health facilities were run horribly and in some cases inhumanely. Now we have gone too far in the wrong direction.
States need to find a better middle ground between the past and where we are now, so we can humanely get more folks that need treatment off the streets and/or getting the help they need.
She wanted help, or she wouldn’t call 911.
OK has it.
Was it used?
If not, why not?
If so, what happened?
She wanted help, or she wouldn’t call 911.

I kind of agree with this.
I don’t care if she said it was only panic attacks, or that she may have had some emotional/cognitive problems. Either there is something we are missing about the interviews or the police seemed strangely dismissive and uninterested in finding out why she felt so threatened. Panic attacks can be extreme for some people but they usually don’t call 911
Did you read the article?
she had been arrested for excessively calling 911.
So, her credibility had been reduced by circumstance.
From the NYPost article: “I had spoken with her Thursday night and she had sent me a couple pictures of her on a bridge and she looked so happy.”
I think you might be right.
Agreed. If she died by her own hand, then she shouldn’t have been released from the psych ward so soon.
OTOH, if someone killed her, then maybe she had a good reason to call 911 the first time, and instead she was arrested and charged for it.
Drugs or lack thereof. I’ve seen too many people go off the rails mixing psych drugs and marijuana
Of all the nerve...did she think 911 was actually for help?
I don’t understand why, either.
Why did they arrest and charge her with “communicating a false alarm”?
If she was lying to 911, and she didn’t have a reason to be fearful of someone, and she wasn’t having a psychological breakdown, why was her body found with no identification on a barge?
Whatever happened here, the police were no help at all.
She called 911 because she was afraid of something and having panic attacks. Then, she asked to be sent to a psych ward.
Instead, police arrested and charged her, released her, and now her body has been found on a barge.
