Author Stephen King railed against gun violence in the wake of Wednesday’s mass shooting in Maine, calling for people to “stop electing apologists for murder.”
“It’s the rapid-fire killing machines, people,” King wrote in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “This is madness in the name of freedom. Stop electing apologists for murder.”
At least 16 people were killed in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday in a mass shooting incident at two locations. Local authorities said the suspect remains at large and residents were instructed to shelter in place. Firearms instructor Robert Card, 40, has been named as a person of interest.

As it has been with all mass-murders, this guy is a mental case. Recently he spent two weeks in a mental institution, openly threatened to shoot up an air force base and displayed all the attributes of a psychopath. The problem we face has nothing to do with the 2n Amendment, law enforcement and the like. We have a mental health epidemic in this country and the psychiatric doctors don’t seem to be any better than their patients.
It’s crime when a doctor fails report a loony tune patient like this to the ATF.
The problem is not guns. It’s America’s “mental health” system. Treatment for mental illness was better in the 1800s than it is now. Of course, no ddrug company was making money off it back then. No was any politician.
King, that guy who ran him over was not going fast enough.
Hey, Stephanie, would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was killed with a bolt-action rifle or pump-shotgun instead?
I had that very thought.
I might be wrong- but I think he’s killed himself. He went on an adrenaline pumping killing spree, drove his car to the river and left it there. Did he have another vehicle there that he left in? Or walk into woods/river and shoot himself? Or- he’s alive and going to hide as long as possible. If he was psychotic during shooting, he may have “normalized” and is now in a vague panic. So much depends on his mental state.
Stop writing books that revel in gore and destruction of the human body.
Stop making explicit movies about that.
Don’t buy the books, borrow them,or buy tickets.
Sure it’s hard to beat someone to death with a book. But the spirit of the nation shifted over sixty years, and King contributed.
Ah. So he doesn't want Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Pressley, Tlaib, Bowman, Bush, Casar, or Lee, all Democrats, elected?
They are all in on murder and terrorism.
Shooter Card is an avid fisherman with military surival skills. Left his car near a boat launch. Could have taken the boat across the river to another mode of transport. Apparently, the river prevents going any distance upriver (rapids) or downriver (dam). I’m guessing he is still on the run.
No Mr. King.
It’s your horror stories and gore.
We need to control your dangerous and bloodthirsty literature and movies that twist peoples minds by desensitizing young people.
What to ban something, how about that idea Mr King?
You may well be right.

What interested me is this guy saying the family is well known and people avoid them.
From your post to Stephen King's brain... if he still has any of one left.
Great video find. Horrible that a baby was killed. The young man interviewed looks and sounds like your typical liberal small town metrosexual. He’s enjoying the media attention.
Sadly, Mr. King is RIGHT.
You could blame his mental state on the accident but he was looney tunes long before that.
Way back when I was a teen, his books were all the rage. I paid good money for a few but soon noticed he couldn’t write past jr high level, his vocabulary was so tiny he had to use cuss words and there tended to be a limp wrist vibe so got over that fad quickly.
Exactly on the young man.
Also found this:
And you’re right- according to his sister-in-law they’ve been “messaging him” to turn himself in. He’s alive and on the run.
SIL said he recently started hearing voices.
I agree with him those who keep electing baby killers need to stop.
Allegedly they got him locked up for mental illness for 2 weeks recently. Sounds like the government’s system for red flagging and gun rights suspension isn’t working very well. There needs to both be enough timely due process to protect the large majority’s rights to guns and self defense, but there also needs to be enough timely due processing of those who are mentally ill to protect the innocent (which might even be themselves.) Given the current mental illness prevalence significant infrastructure changes are needed, including enough legal infrastructure to provide ‘outs’ for those who don’t really need mandated care or supervision but are somehow fall under its evaluation.
