State Rep. Fine withdraws presidential support for DeSantis, backs Trump. 'I love his words. His actions have broken my heart,' legislator says

State Rep. Randy Fine (R-Palm Bay) has become the first GOP lawmaker to break with DeSantis. That’s after nearly the entire Republican legislative caucus backed the governor for the party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

In a 637-word opinion article, posted this week in the Washington Times, Fine said he was switching allegiance to former President Donald Trump after DeSantis' inaction on antisemitism.

Fine shared his grievances with us on Tuesday.....

"Look — Gov. DeSantis says all the right things but a lot of times the action isn't behind it, and President Trump sometimes says the wrong things, but the actions are always there, and it's a choice between words and action…" Fine said. "I'm not gonna lie. Ias bothered me for a year and a half. But I tried to be a good soldier. I tried to make the best of it."

If Mr. Fine wants to be a state senator, he’ll need to look elsewhere for my vote. Implying that DeSantis doesn’t care about antisemitism is absurd, even before the rescue flights took place. DeSantis has been a staunch supporter of Israel since he was in the Florida House. His support is based on his Christian faith and not because he has a Jewish son-in-law and converted daughter.

St. Petersburg has the Florida Holocaust Museum. Miami has a Holocaust Memorial already, so this must be about one planned for Tallahassee. The Holocaust must be remembered but how many memorials do we need in one state? The two already available are where most people go for activies. Tallahassee is somewhere you go if you work or live there, not if you’re looking for places to visit.

I agree it’s absurd, 90% of the attacks on Desantis.

I suspect Mrs. Fine’s peculiar idea for an autistic children fundraiser might make endorsing Mr. Fine a problem for any conservative Republican:

It’s over for DeSantis. He really just did this to himself.

It was the never Trumpers that put Biden into office, mostly for not voting at all. Then they have the audacity to say that Trump lost us the White House.

They even told us Jeffries would get the speakership role, all the while saying Gaetz was a fool. We got someone who seems at first glance to be a real believer in conservative ideas.

They are against Trump at every turn, all in the name of bipartisanship. Look what that got us.

I’m tired of seeing the old guard of the GOP caving into the big donors. When they do, the democrats win.

This is just the beginning of the battle because we’ve had enough.
