Rishi Sunak will kick plans for a ban on gay and trans conversion therapy into the long grass, as dozens of Tory MPs urged the prime minister not to include it in the King’s Speech, according to reports.
Following claims that the government was “stuck in a loop” amid disagreements on the wording of the ban, the prime minister was reported this week to finally be planning to include a draft bill in the King’s Speech next month to prohibit conversion therapy.
Mr Sunak’s chief whip Simon Hart had warned him the government could face a rebellion if it failed to introduce the bill banning attempts to change someone’s sexuality, according to The Times.
The bill was also said to be set to protect transgender people from efforts to change anyone’s gender, a crucial inclusion which LGBT+ campaigners had been demanding.
But now just days later the plans are set to be dropped by No 10. More than 40 Tory MPs having signed a letter demanding that Mr Sunak does not include the draft bill in the King’s Speech, which sets out ministers’ legislative agenda for the following year.

Yeah they’ll pass it most likely
Yes, a win.
And it indicates that the Conservatives are at least thinking about electoral survivability, and ways to distance themselves from Labour.
This is nowhere near enough though. They need to savagely roll back on ‘the boat people’ and the Net Zero nonsense if they want to ever be in power again. Time is short.
My guess is they don’t want to bring it up with Muslims having the political advantage right now
The issue isn’t the trans conversions....it’s the election fraud that permits deviants a seat at the table where grownups discuss, debate and are there to prevent such perversion. Nobody honestly votes for that cr#$ anywhere in the world
A momentary reprieve, maybe.
The idea that one could be free to send one’s child into a literal genital mutilation buzzsaw, but banned from talking a child out of desiring this, or even giving a child a chance to admit that he or she is being coerced into such surgery by one or more adults, is stultifying.
Perhaps I am missing something, but there seems to be a contradiction here:

Stuck on wording of the ban - how about “No.”.
Having seen a bit of how elections are run in Britain it seems to me that it’s *much* more difficult to steal an election there than it is here.
Tories, like Republicans, have become a party about nothing.
How is a “roll back a ban on gay and trans conversion therapy” a win?
So Parliament writes the King’s speeches? All of them, or just occasionally like this one?
The government writes it all he does is recite what he’s given
“My government over the next session of parliament will introduce legislation .. “
It’s an odd convention which happens once a year.
