If recent, credible reports are to be believed, Beijing has made it a primary mission to conquer the cognitive domain—not just at home, but across the world. Society is, after all, nothing but a collection of minds. To control the mind is, in many ways, to control the overarching narrative. According to the aforementioned Mr. Giordano, a professor of neurology and director of the neuroethics program at Georgetown University Medical Center, cognitive warfare has two primary dimensions. *snip* Take social media, for example, which is little more than a collection of symbols (emojis, etc.), content (videos, photos, etc.), constructs (framed problems, solutions, etc.), and "contexts of narrative" (subjective, objective, etc). Pro-China influence campaigns have already infiltrated social media platforms and various news websites, and Mr. Giordano expects this aggression to intensify in nature, especially with a presidential election only 12 months away.
