Kevin McCarthy’s ouster as House speaker marks much needed shift for the Republican Party

The speaker of the House’s removal marks a turning point in Republican politics. Conservatives in Knoxville and across America have been demanding change in Republican leadership in Washington for over a decade. The event that occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 3 finally brought home a victory.

In an internal poll, 85% of right-wing UT students in College Republicans approved of former speaker McCarthy's removal. With a majority of conservatives in America supporting his removal as well, it is clear that McCarthy did not draw support from the Republican base.

McCarthy had numerous underlying problems and outright failures as a politician and speaker of the House that ultimately culminated in his firing. The most prominent overarching issue that kept the right flank of House Republicans skeptical was his inextricable ties with the Republican establishment and donor class.

Entrenched in House GOP leadership since 2009, McCarthy has always been in cahoots with lobbyists and special interest groups. The congressman's political action committees and super PACs raise hundreds of millions of dollars every election cycle. This money is distributed to his and hundreds of other congressional races across America, outpacing any other Republican fundraising by far.

Since the bulk of McCarthy’s donations came from wealthy individuals and corporations tied to big business, as well as lobbies in foreign countries, he was essentially controlled by them and forced to answer to their demands. This control often results in lip service to authentic conservative values while neglecting to act substantively.

For instance, the congressman has been a staunch supporter of billions in aid to Ukraine ever since the war broke out, secretly supports big tech — only publicly railing against conservative censorship “due to pressure from his fellow members” — is more left-wing than 97% of House Republicans

I see people bemoaning “Oh, Gaetz should have never...” whatever.

I personally don’t give a crap if this paralyzes our government anymore. It is deliberately trying to destroy this nation. I can’t see how incapacitating it can do any worse than what they have been deliberately doing.

Sad, is it not, that our great hope is that the Republican Party goes from RINO lite to RINO almost lite?

I’ve written off representation on the federal level. I think the best focus is on local and state. School boards, city council, county commissioner. Grassroot it, hold the state if you can. Flip a seat when you can. It’s a war of attrition.

If the “20” RINO moderates can’t support Jordan, leave the speakership vacant.

That may have backfired bigly, if the House has to settle for a compromise.

There is kind of an irony:

Conservatives led the effort to remove McCarthy.
GOPestablihment leads the effort to keep Jordan from getting enough votes.

Unlikely. The culture and DNA of the GOP is one of weakness and appeasement. Its pretty obvious that the party has a deeply imbedded, losing mindset that's never going to change.

Reagan bequeathed the party a playbook for winning but they promptly threw it away. Trump tried to reform and reorient the party but they resisted him. They simply don't want to change.

The GOP is what it is.

True that. Unfortunately, lack of cohesion and dysfunction is situation normal for the GOP.

It would be nice to have a party that consistently stands for something and fights for it. Just saying.

I certainly am not either a RINO or a Rat. But I don’t appreciate someone decapitating our majority without a plan, which is what Gaetz has done.

Gaetz wanted to stop the runaway spending. Anyone who dares to suggest fiscal responsibility gets vilified in the DC Swamp.

How can the author say “much needed” before we know where McCarthy’s replacement stands? If his replacement is to his left, the result won’t be some happy paralysis that satisfies the rule-or-ruin crowd — there’s going to be even more bad things happening. More leftist bills slipping through. Investigative committees disbanded.

Indeed. Get ready for Speaker Patrick McHenry for awhile. This is a guy who gets led around by the nose by Maxine Waters on the Financial Services Committee.

Who’s bemoaning anything?

I just laugh, that anyone things 8 Republicans conspiring with democrats to remove a speaker is going to wind up giving us a more conservative leadership is the LEAST LIKELY OUTCOME of all this...

What’s the most likely outcome? Another establishment speaker, that had to cut a deal with Democrats to secure the nomination....

So, tell me how that puts us in a better place?

Entire thing is a clown show as far as I’m concerned.

Outside of ridding the party of a useless SOTH and then the party voting for a replacement SOTH, just what more of a plan should have been in place?

Hating Gaetz, and realizing the stupidity of his actions are 2 different things.

Reality is Gaetz is a clown, McCarthy is a clown, all of congress is a clown show.

8 Republicans conspired with democrats to remove a speaker.

Okay, now what? Are those 8 heros? Hard to see a world where you can draw that conclusion.

If a more conservative leadership comes from it, one could make that case.. but the most likely outcome is not a more conservative leadership, but another establishment Republican winds up speaker.... and does so with the real possibility of cutting a deal with democrats to make it happen.

So, if that turns out to be the end game, and that is the most likely outcome, how can anyone these actions improved anything?

We’ll see how it plays out, but those thinking we are going to wind up with a more conservative leadership when the dust settles, I believe will be highly disappointed.

As far as I’m concerned, the entire congress is full of clowns, and this is nothing more than a clown show.

If I have to eat crow on this, I’ll happily eat the crow, but highly doubt I will be.
