We can, of course, deescalate by declaring neutrality. And pulling all aid from Israel and Arabs alike.
But that would outrage those already infected with war fever.
Yes, it's just like 9/11, when a segment of conservatives were suddenly eager for war, decrying the Iraqi threat to Israel, and citing parallels and prophecies from the Bible.
That didn't turn out too well for us.
We are also weaker now. Our economy is weaker, our military is weaker, our domestic unity is weaker. Things should turn out even worse for us this time. Perhaps our last gasp as a nation?
The crumbling Ottoman empire was the first referenced as the Sick Man of Europe by Russian czar Nicholas I.
Turkey inherited that moniker and it’s still used, but you don’t hear that much outside of Europe.
Expect much worse events than the storming of an American consulate in the days to come.

Ottoman Turks of 100 years ago. One hundred years is not a long time. Modernizing the culture from that pre-modern one has been one of the greatest struggles in what we now call Turkey. It pretty much *defines* Turkish nationalism in last century, and even before that. Ataturk is lionized because of his strides in this area.

Given the Islamic dictator currently in charge of Turkey I’m surprised they still have an embassy there.
Just hope the golden dome on top of the Temple Mount doesn’t collapse. That would be the ultimate sign.

Yes, one was once told that when Damascus is destroyed, everything happens quickly.
The US and British Embassies are likely to be stormed in Turkey. Not so much Russian and Chinese ones though. I wonder why?
