Columbia University has refused to comment on the growing furor over a tenured professor who called Hamas’ terror attacks against Israel “awesome” — as a petition calling for his ouster gained more than 45,000 signatures.
Professor of politics and history Joseph Massad was accused of “condoning and supporting terrorism” in a Change.org petition created by 23-year-old student Maya Platek.
The teacher called Hamas’ attacks on Israel a “stunning victory” in an article he published on The Electronic Intifada a day after the conflict ignited.
“Regardless of one’s stance on the conflict, supporting and praising one of the worst acts of terrorism in history is never acceptable,” the petition reads.

No one has to give to Columbia.
It can be as stupid as its trustees & alumni allow it to be.

No Sir. It can be as stupid as it’s needs for donations will allow. Trustees and alumni are irrelevant to financial NEED.
As far as many are concerned, they should close the school, vacate all buildings, bulldoze them to the ground and sell the property. Then charge the bulldozers and clean up to the schools endowment administrator or whatever is left of it after EXPENSES.
“Columbia University refuses to condemn professor who called Hamas attack ‘awesome’”
hopefully, their alumni donations will quickly dwindle to zero as a result ...
Never said anyone did. They are private.
However, if some non-alumni want to, I am sure they will take the money. Why would any non-alumni want to (unless you’re an antisemite!), especially now.
That’s implied in the sentence.
It’s a private school, private property again they can be as stupid & as obnoxious as they want to be as long as the money holds out. This is not their only egregious ant-civilization example. I think Saul & Alinsky were profs there and as Alan Dershowitz pointed out they were supportive of the Nazi pre-WWII.
Lest anyone think I am defending what they said. I am not! I am defending free speech and private property. It’s a problem for their trustees & alumni!
“No one has to give to Columbia”
True. But, this is in every university in this country. With only a handful of exceptions.
