A new rule allows health care providers to be reimbursed for treating homeless people wherever they are, rather than just in hospitals or clinics.
The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) began allowing this change for both public and private insurers on Oct. 1, KFF Health News reported.
"The Biden-Harris administration has been focused on expanding access to health care across the country," CMS spokesperson Sara Lonardo told KFF Health News, explaining that federal officials created the new reimbursement code at the request of street medicine providers who weren't being paid for their work.
Now doctors, nurses and other providers can provide reimbursed care in a "non-permanent location on the street or found environment." Most of the patients who will be helped by this are low-income, disabled and older people on Medicaid and Medicare, KFF Health News reported.
"It's a game-changer. Before, this was really all done on a volunteer basis," said Valerie Arkoosh, secretary of Pennsylvania's Department of Human Services, which spearheaded a state-based billing change in July. "We are so excited. Instead of a doctor's office, routine medical treatments and preventive care can now be done wherever unhoused people are."

Dems want to give, GIVE!!!, 6 million illegals and the drug addicted my money to pay for their “health care” - another word for free drugs, stepping ahead of American cancer and other patients, and crowding out the ER for menstrual cramps and colds.
Went to Mexico City last month. Still shitty but pockets of nice areas. Loaded up on RX drugs that we routinely purchase in the States. Cost me about $80 for what I would have to easily spend $900-$1,000 in CA with my bullcrap insurance.

I have seriously considered just becoming a bum and live on scare and my savings. I have paid and laid and paid .y whole life oy to have democrats destroy my business with lockdowns and regulations. The deductible is around $7500 per person and for a family of four it’s $30,000. Yes, that’s right.
Effectively there is no insurance coverage 90 per cent of the time.
I was carrying my own insurance when Affirmative-Action Buffoon care kicked in. Premium doubled and the deductible went from $2500 to $7500.
