Shocker in Louisiana as Republican Jeff Landry Smokes Democrat to Flip Governor’s Mansion Without Runoff
Breitbart ^ | 14 Oct 2023 | Matthew Boyle

Republican Jeff Landry won a landslide election on Saturday to flip the Louisiana governor’s mansion red in one of three main gubernatorial elections this year, shocking political observers with a victory that saves him the trouble of having to face a Democrat in a November runoff.

Landry defeated Democrat Shawn Wilson and the rest of the field in Louisiana’s gubernatorial election, winning about 52 percent of the vote. In Louisiana, governor elections are first open to a full field of all candidates from either party in what is known as a jungle primary—and then the two top vote-getters generally advance to a runoff a month later. But if a candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote, as Landry did here, they can win outright on jungle primary day.

Many were expecting Landry, the clear and convincing frontrunner who has been the Attorney General of Louisiana for many years after a stint in Congress, to easily advance to the runoff and face Wilson in November. But his overwhelmingly strong performance on Saturday put him above majority support as the Associated Press called the race with him easily north of the 50 percent mark, meaning Landry will be the next governor of Louisiana.

>>52 to 26 is a little beyond the margin of fraud

If you go by party breakdown, it was 65 REP to 28 DEM plus 6 MISC. That seems promising for general elections.

Clearly an unfair election. The voters didn’t allow the democrats to steal it in the runoff.

I saw that and we have seen it before.
A classic RAT plan to make sure the GOP looses.
Sure glad it failed this time.

Jungle primary - sounds racist and will be overturned.
They should call it bayou primary.

The Democrats beating the drum for abortion was “supposed” to hurt Landry.

Looks like Louisiana kiboshed the Democrats’ post-Dobbs furor over abortion,
and that abortion isn’t the silver bullet for the Dems they and their media allies hoped it was.

“Not a particularly good result, given how bad a job Biden is doing...”

I bet you are a DeSantis-bot.

Yesterday, the DeSantis-bots were supposedly cringing at the idea that Trump was supporting Landry, a sure-fire way to kill his candidacy, according to them.

“Trump seldom endorses without confidence in a win.”

Another DeSantis-bot, trying hard to turn a victory into a character defect in Trump. Trump endorses across the board.

“How long do the Dems have to count the votes?”

By law, Saturday night.

All the non-election day voting also has to be counted by the end of election day.

Surprised anyone thought the Pubbie might lose. LA is pretty solidly red, for now. Trump might have depressed Landry’s vote, but it’s too big a margin to overcome except for a phenom like John Bel Edwards. But this Dem got 26%, better than Jindal’s opponent who got 17%.

[Jindal was the only republican in the field for both elections. Landry was one of eight republican in the field yesterday, who collectively won 65.5% of the vote.]

In that case, the GOP collectively did better (66%) than Jindal (54%), which is heartening. Scott Pressler is doing good GOTV.

I suspect the NeverTrumpers will not have much to say here and instead spend their time mostly on that war in Europe.

You are correct, we won't hear from the never Trumpers today.

BTW, where are all the deSanctimonious backers since it has become apparent that Ron is a very good governor but would never have won without Trump {the first time}.

DeSantis is a prime example of Peter's Principle, which he has hit.

Ah, no. I’m not a “DeSantis-bot”. Is all your political analysis that obtuse?

Trump tends to endorse winners—and then his endorsement increases the margin in red states and districts.

That’s what I presume happened here to move beyond victory to escaping a run-off.

“Trump tends to endorse winners”

Your words suggest that Trump will not stick his neck out unless it is a sure thing.
