sounds plausible ... a lot more believable than Shoigu's "6000" number, anyway

using the 3:1 injured/killed ratio would mean Russia has lost 400,000 troops

which would explain why Putin had to do another 300,000 mobilization 1 year ago ...

Significant yes. Enough to force Russia to back off Ukraine, no.

Russia has a history of taking substantial losses. My estimate is that it will take on the order of 500,000 KIA to get Russia to withdraw.

ransomnote: He's an interesting speaker and I plan to listen to the whole recording now that I listened to the first 10 minutes. I put a few excerpts below, and put a few sections in bold text for emphasis. He's British, former military and former NATO member.

The transcript is computer generated so there are word choice errors, but I find it worth reading.
EXCERPT:

I saw the
other day you may well have seen it uh
an eight 800w oped by Ben Wallace in the
Daily
Telegraph I have never seen so much
scandalous lying in my life it is
disgraceful he is telling us one last
push and Ukraine Army is going to win
he's talked about um a half a million
Russian casualties and the loss of two
two 2,500 armored uh armored vehicles
none of this is true the long and short
of it is Ukraine Army is being badly
beaten and the war is virtually over
now

now what we need to do is understand
how this came about how did this come
about how did this crazy unnecessary
criminal War come about one wonders well
it is about regime change so it's you
could trade it back further than 2008
but 2008 is a good time to go back
too where it became uh
policy uh of Washington Washington's
policy and its puppet nature because
NATO is simply just a puppet uh of the
Neo conu Washington now
I speak as the
ex obviously NATO NATO member NATO
supporter in the days of the Soviet
Union the N NATO was a very good thing
uh NATO protected us from a rather
unpleasant regime heavily militarized
regime the Soviet Union those days have
gone now theyve gone what we can't seem
to understand is that the Soviet Union
is no more and we can't move on in this
country we have to move on Washington
has to move on European nations in NATO
have to move on

So putin’s war has cost at least a quarter-million lives.

And he wants Israel to go easy on Hamas. Or else there will be... consequences.

You know who’s paying all of these expenses for the 450,000 dead Ukrainian boys? Our grandchildren will be. We’re also paying the salaries of the entire satrapy. Don’t forget the pensions we’re paying for all pensioners, dead and alive.

There is certainly a lot of deflection in this thread on the news that the Russians have suffered over 100,000 dead in this war. Will Putin continue his attempt to conquer Ukraine until the last Russian? The pro-Russian keyboard warriors do seem not to care about the lives of the Russian soldiers.
