As House Republicans remain divided over their next leader, a group of moderates is plotting to empower temporary Speaker Patrick McHenry to make the chamber function again.
The center-right Republican Governance Group has gathered signatures on a petition to suggest giving McHenry, R-N.C., the authority to lead the House in legislative business, according to Rep. Maria Salazar, R-Fla.
The House floor has been paralyzed since last Tuesday, when eight Republicans voted with Democrats to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. The chamber has been unable to move legislation since.
The legislative inaction comes despite a looming mid-November deadline to keep the government running and a crisis in the Middle East.
House Republicans tapped Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., to be their nominee for speaker over Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, this week. But Scalise remains well shy of the 217 votes he needs on the floor to become speaker. It’s unclear whether Scalise — or anyone else, for that matter — can clinch that number in their fractured conference.
A three-hour meeting earlier Thursday did virtually nothing to move the needle, nor did a separate huddle with Scalise and representatives from five different factions of the House Republican Conference.

That tells the story right there. Three pantywaists and one solid conservative. I hope the conservatives will hold out for Jordan despite the “sky is falling” pressure that will be put on them.
Yet another article that omitts the key fact that Scalise’s nomination was acquired by a secret vote.
This do-nothing GOPe worthless congress is good at only one thing, spending other people’s money and piling on the debt. This why they might get tossed next fall in spite of Trump winning, it is not that the rats turn out in massive numbers but more likely the turnout for the swamp rats is dismal.
One can possess a lot of hope for this country but the GOPe/uniparty/deep state/swamp is in the way.
“Yet another article that omits the key fact that Scalise’s nomination was acquired by a secret vote.”
Yeah, and with three delegates voting who are not authorized to vote on the floor. Whatever it takes to hike up the numbers.
Without the three delegates the vote was 110-99.
I say again, when will rank and file membership in the GOP organize to take their party back?
When was the last time they had that power?
Even Reagan felt the pressure to accept George H.W. “VooDoo Economics” Bush as his Veep running mate (an establishment squish).
And Trump, of course, had his Judas Pence.
In other words, meet the new boss - same as the old boss.
Congressman Giminez will only vote foe McCarthy.
Obviously, McHenry needs to be blocked as well.
No to Deep State RINOs. No to more war whoring in Ukraine. No to rolling over for Democrats.
Which is why I’m asking the question of rank and file members. To hell with the GOP. From Ronna McDaniel in leadership on down they are corrupt. Nothing will ever change until the rank and file, the mom and pops, the young families, band together at the grass roots organize and do something.
Its fine to gripe and moan about the state of your party, but unless you are willing to force change do you really think any of them will do anything but toss you an occasional bone?
I’m not a republican. I left this party years ago because of its Rinos Uni Party elites. I now only donate to candidates that I support. I write scathing letters to politicians in my state and am on NOBODYS good guy list. But im one person.......
