An employee tragically lost his life while attempting to thwart a robbery at Big Bob's Liquors and Market, located at the corner of Sunset and Point Avenue in West Covina.
The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday during what authorities described as an altercation while the employee attempted to stop a theft.
Police said that two males entered the store and stole merchandise. The victim confronted the men at which time the shooting occurred.

I can see brick and mortar stores eventually shutting down and delivery ops in place. Armed.

The shame of it is that we are left with the only path that is the one that destroys society (probably not be accident).
You can’t just shoot them. Then YOU got to jail.
You can’t call the police. They wont get there in time, and even if they do they’ll just be released, and you might face retaliation.
So option 3 is to let yourself be robbed and hope there is no violence. You reward the crime and crime becomes a plague.

Yep. Awhile back I read about this liquor store owner in San Francisco. She was robbed, on average, six times a day. Not six times per month. Six times per day.
It was always shoplifting. People would come in, grab a few bottles, and just leave. As you noted, it was a waste of time to call the police.
The owner said she was going to lock up the booze to make it more difficult to steal. I suppose that might work…until an angry and armed thief appears.

Maybe. But back then city folks were made of sterner stuff. And back then most city officials didn’t actively oppose personal self-defense.
