Fifteen minutes later, one of Markey’s Capitol Hill colleagues, U.S. Rep. Jake Auchincloss, D-4th District, seemed to hit back at the Democratic senator’s remarks.
“Now is not the time for equivocation,” Auchincloss said. “Hamas is an internationally recognized terrorist organization that is executing and raping civilians. Israel is a liberal democracy with the right and responsibility to defend itself and its citizens.
“Deescalation is not possible when they are taking hostages. And Israel did not ask America to deescalate on September 12, 2001,” he said.
By midday Monday, when the crowd rallied on the Boston Common, an estimated 1,500 people were presumed dead in Israel and the Gaza Strip since Hamas’ invasion Saturday morning.
In Israel, 900 people, including 73 soldiers, are believed to have been killed, the Associated Press reported. Among the dead were at least 11 Americans, President Joe Biden said. Israeli authorities also said an estimated 150 people had been taken as hostages into Gaza, including children, according to the New York Times.
For many in the crowd at Monday’s rally, the conflict was “not just a geopolitical challenge, but a deeply personal reality,” Auchincloss continued. “Some of you, I fear, may know one of the victims or one of the hostages. Many of you I expect have friends and family being called up from the reserves.”
Markey seemed to recover the crowd as he concluded his remarks, telling them the United States would not condone antisemitism in any form, and that “many of you have family in Israel now and many more have those who have lived through brutal wars to ensure the ongoing survival of the Jewish state. We grieve with you.”

In an interview with MassLive after the rally, Auchincloss, a former Marine, called his remarks a “prebuttal to a narrative that I don’t want to build — that both sides need to lay down their arms. And that both sides have equal responsibility.
“Israel is still battling for control over its own territory,” Auchincloss told MassLive. “Israel is trying to recover hostages. Israel needs the military latitude to reestablish deterrence and to root out ... terrorism in Gaza. Deescalation would be premature.”

They need to be shown the pictures, fully. Not the blurred out videos, but the real thing. Thee blood, the children massacred, all of it and then see if they still want to cheer them on. I’m sick of it. They have no concept of the reality. If they still cheer after seeing it, put them on boats and send them to Gaza to live, they don’t belong with civilized people.
However, the Democrats will continue to keep voting for him.
Markey is one of the dumbest members of Congress. Literally.

Markey was elected to Congress in 1976 as one of the enormous class of Watergate babies — possibly the most destructive cohort of pols in American history. Prior to that, he had served in the Massachusetts legislature. He did serve in the Army Reserve and practiced law briefly before going into politics. He is a poster child for term limits.
Correction: he has been a poster child for term limits for 35 years.
(I lean towards a 12 year limit for Congress, so six House terms, two Senate terms, or some combination thereof. There is something to be said for experience; some of the most useful people in Congress are the subcommittee chairmen/ranking members who have been around three or four terms and actually have some idea of how to get something done — or would know how to get something done if the modern filibuster/gridlock system allowed it. The point is to avoid the lifers, like Markey, who get elected to Congress very young, consider it a terminal position, and turn themselves into pure hacks. Unless already elderly when first elected, they should serve with the certainty of returning to private life after a reasonable time.)

Markey is close to the Squad, a big promoter of the Green New Deal with AOC.

I also think we need to return to the Senate the Founding Fathers envisione. One that represents the states, so I for repeal of 17th Amendment. State legislatures could do worse !
