CHICAGO (WLS) -- At least 40 people have been shot, two fatally, in gun violence across Chicago this weekend, police said.
Eight people were shot downtown early Sunday, Chicago police said.
EMS responded to the scene at 2:40 a.m., near West Erie Street and North Orleans Street in River North, and discovered three people who had been shot, Chicago fire officials said.
Just under an hour earlier, two people were critically wounded after an argument turned physical inside an Auburn Gresham home on the South Side.
At about 1:50 a.m., a man and woman, 33 and 52, were arguing inside the home in the 1700 block of West 86th Street when he pulled out a handgun and the argument turned physical, Chicago police said.
The woman, who was shot in the abdomen, gained control of the gun and shot the man in the chest and back, police said.
A woman was killed and a man was wounded in a shooting Saturday in the South Shore neighborhood.
They were outside at about 10:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 74th Street when a group of people opened gunfire on them, Chicago police said.

Around 1960 there was a Mad Magazine story that the typewriters (remember?) were going to come out with finger work saving combined special keys for the journalists and editors who had to write the same story so often. It listed the top movie and music stars and words that got them into the news (new husband for Liz Taylor, fans mob Elvis).
We have computers but there is very little improvement week by week for the past two or three years in Chicago shootings.
It’s worse than that. Chicago has a pretty effective ShotSpotter system.
Not counting the 13,186 rounds of “celebratory” gunfire detected shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, the ferals have expended over 131,000 rounds year to date, with 2,465 victims catching any lead at all and 450 shot and killed. The hit rate is 1.89% and the kill rate is 0.34%.
The ferals are averaging 300 rounds fired to achieve one homicide.

The city must learn to curb their Amish, just like the Democratic leaders do in their other ruled/ruined cities.
Thank goodness they're not able to get in the military--at least not yet.
