Comparing America to Israel on gun laws is dishonest – and revealing

There’s more. Once they are granted the right to carry a gun, Israelis are limited to just 50 bullets in their possession at any given time. They must shoot or return old bullets before they can buy new ones, a process that can only take place at tightly regulated shooting ranges where each bullet’s sale is carefully registered. The types of guns permitted also depend on the reason for the license – i.e., a veterinarian may only purchase a gun approved by the government for the killing of animals, a hunter’s license only permits the purchase of a firearm from an approved firearms list kept by the Parks Authority, and so forth.

In other words, as the Public Security Ministry explains on its website, Israeli law “does not recognize a right to bear arms, and anyone wanting to do so must meet a number of requirements, including a justified need to carry a firearm.” There is no inkling of a belief among Israelis that citizens should be permitted to own guns as a check on government power — that is, as a limit to the sovereignty of the state expressed in its monopoly on violence.

Roger that. Somehow a lot of folks thought Israel was a gun owner paradise. Wrong! I assumed that as well until I did a little research. Law abiding folks, too bad. Bad guys/terrorists get to have all the actual military grade weapons they want. What’s wrong with this picture? Oh, higher moral ground?

Israel lacks a Constitution or even a declaration of rights.

It’s amazing, Israel is surrounded by people who want to murder all the Jews and yet they restrict their right to defend themselves?

Just bizarre...

It’s that low?! I knew it was low but had no idea it was only 1.4 guns per 100 people. In the US I think it is something like 120 guns per 100 people.

Jews can kill off as many of their fellow Jews as they want with stupid "Gun Control" genocide disguised as "Law" in Israel, It's none of my business, and I've learned not to care.

Just as long as they stay out of the Constitutional Representational Republic of The United States of America in person and influence.

They can have their "Democracy" Mob Rule Socialism.

Israel doesn’t have anything like the Second Amendment. They don’t have a right to keep and bear arms so the government does like they do everywhere and greatly restrict the power of the people.

” There is no inkling of a belief among Israelis that citizens should be permitted to own guns as a check on government power —”

Odd belief for a nation founded by survivors of nazi Germany.

Yes, that’s ridiculous. One would think they’d be REQUIRED to own them.

Odd belief for a nation founded by survivors of nazi Germany.

When Israel first started, Holocaust survivors who had moved to Israel were shunned, especially by those who fought for Israel's independence, because the perception is they didn't fight back, and let the Nazis have their way.

In fact the Holocaust wasn't talked about much in Israel.

The Eichmann Trial changed all that, and even those who once criticized the survivors finally understood.

Odd belief for a nation founded by survivors of nazi Germany.

I talked to a holocaust survivor once, at an event. I asked if she thought it could ever happen in the United States as more and more power was concentrated in the Government.

She was adamant. It could *never* happen here!

I was amazed.

In America, owning a gun is a constitutional right. Here in Israel, owning a gun is a privilege. We have no constitution here.

Just to be clear, in the United States, the right to keep and bear arms (not just guns) is an inalienable right.

The Second Amendment states that the government shall not infringe on that inalienable right.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe said a Holocaust could happen in America “tomorrow”.

What’s sad is Israel Weapon Industries makes some of the finest guns for the civilian market. I got a Masada for $380 this year and shoots like a dream.

Actually, to avoid giving the commies a chance to pervert the terms meaning, owning a weapon is a natural right the constitution expressly forbids the government from interfering with (infringing).

The federal constitution, being a contract between the states who created the federal government, and their creature the federal government, is a limited powers document, severely limiting what the federal government is allowed to do. Too many citizens over the past century have failed to grasp they have to hold the federal government to the clearly defined limits set forth in the contract.

......you make a good point about music venues but you miss the MAIN point.

In Texas’s 254 counties, and even in my county, which is only about 50,000, at least 1,000 of my fellow rednecks would hear about the attack on their pickup radios and being within a few miles away, they would head to the sound of the gunfire.

If you are a non Texan and don’t believe it, there are still videos with audio you can google up showing Whitman receiving hundreds of rounds from “citizens” on the ground, 28 floors below. One “citizen” (Allen Crum) armed himself and went up to the top of the tower and assisted Austin Police Officer Ramiro Martinez in killing Whitman.

I know how many rounds because I heard every one of them on August 1, 1966 because I was two blocks away working 5 floors up on a construction site. I also heard at least a dozen sirens non stop for two hours.

With 600 UNARMED kids at a concert, Israel just proved the stupidity of their inane gun laws, ask the families of the 600 dead. Just a few armed concert goers could have saved innocent young lives, in my opinion.

Whitman, armed to the teeth and a crack shot, could only kill 14 and wound 31 thanks in large part to citizens firing so many rounds at him he could not put his gun out of the drain ports (of the wall he was hiding behind) and aim a shot.

Plus, in 1966, few of us carried guns compared to today when everybody has a gun and there are 20 million more people in Texas. One of my lawyers, a few years back, chased a guy down the street with a 45 in his hand. He was an ex marine officer. Again, when it comes to guns, and good people willing to use them against a bad guy, Texas is unique.
